In reply to: Diego Pena 's message, "DRUM CADENCE - SIDE STREET JAM" on 22:41:39 02/02/03 Sun

REmembering now, I think it was 7 cowbell stokes, instead of my initial thought of 6. When I was in marching band (76-80) it was followed by 5 lower bass tom tom strokes (also bass drum), then repeated again with the cowbell. This usually sent the crowds in the stands into a frenzy, especially the pepsquad/dance team where they would lose all decorum (sp?)and start dancing in their places.

The tuba section would also play a diddy called "Redneck" which sounded really "good 'ole boyish" and "hokey" and the band would respond by moving "up and down" alternatively.

The trumpet section would also play "Eat 'em up" at opportune times to get the crowd going and in to the game. ("eat 'em up, eat 'em up, rah, rah, rah!")

As a former tuba player I seem to recall that the 'bones started it as a variation of the "Cotton Eyed Joe".

Kim, yes, you're right, it was 7 strokes on the cowbell. And you mean the Broad Squad or the Bumblerettes, don't you? I think I choked on their official name every time I tried to say it back then!
