Does anyone know if there is a recording, or a tape of the Marshall band's Astroworld performance from 1976? I know that Mr. Kuentz showed us a film of the 1977 or 1978 marching band, but are there any recordings of the 1976 Astroworld or contest show? I think it would be great if we could find a recording, and then copy it to DVD for our personal use. If anyone is interested in assisting me trying to find a copy, please let me know. Thanks.

As far as I know, or urban legend has it, that Chuck Opalenick's dad recorded all the halftime shows. I've contacted Chuck in the past asking for copies, but to no avail. Maybe someone else might have better luck?

Hi There,
Not sure if you all remember me, I joined the band playing flute in 1975. Mid 1990's, Chuck was teaching at Hobby Middle School...he also told me he would send me those tapes of the performances...and if I remember (old age creeping in) he showed some of those to us at one of the band reunions. If you can let me know how to get in touch with him, I will try to encourage him to follow thru...strength in numbers as they say!!

Hi, Carolyn:

E-mail addresses can be accessed by answering the simple question on www.e-kiro.com/band2.htm (following the link "Next" on the home page, www.e-kiro.com/band1.htm). I set it up this way to discourage harvesting of e-mail addresses by spammers.

Mark Stephens has contact information on everyone who has responded to his e-mails, so if you need to get in touch with somebody, you could ask Mark for a phone number.

Cheers!

Robin

I cannot comment on the issue of a videotape. However, I remember that night VIVIDLY. We all got in deep doodoo after we hung out at AstroWorld and then came back to the buses and some people started changing clothes, instead of falling into formation as Mr. K had instructed.
We had been invited to sit with the UofH band that night in the Astrodome, but we ended up getting ordered into our seats and headed home.
