Butch, I have never read nor posted on this site. However, with the debate over the BB courts heated again, I was curious. I say again, because I have lived here for 6 years, and I was a very active homeowner for the first 4 years I lived here. I went to every monthly board meeting even if I had nothing to say. I attended every annual meeting, as well as helped with the very first neighborhhood watch. I can say with certainty I have seen so much over the years! Some good, and some too much to put on a public website. I agree that some people may come off as persnickety, as you have mentioned. However, my final straw with staying active, positive, and keeping my neighborhood awesome came last year. I am a somewhat young, 27 year old African American women. And yes I have a few visible tattoos myself. I am no fuddie-dud, but I do have small twin boys. One evening I decided to let my boys look for crawdads in the creek beside the courts, and what an earful my kids and I got! There were about 20 kids on the courts at the time, which if they are playing a good game, I'm cool with that... Better to play a sport than sitting around doing nothing! However, these kids had pulled up two cars onto the sidewalk blasting music, which I also listen to when my kids aren't riding with me, so I know the content, firsthand. A handful of girls are doing the booty dance, and the guys are screaming, back that sh.. up, bit..! Well, I heard other mommies and daddies complaining to each other, and I wondered why they are not adddressing the problem? I had a friend keep an eye on my boys, I walked over to the group, and said, "hey guys we have little kids around, please watch the language, ok"? They loooked at me said Fu.. You bi..., and what are you gonna do about? When I asked them if they even lived here, they walked towards me and told me too step off, or they'll step me off! I called the cops, and the cops told them to move their cars and calm down! Now, that is one of many incidents over my six years of living here. The bad thing is that I love this neighborhood, but all the extra garbage that alot of you guys don't even know about is why I'm on a 3 year plan to move! Try going down to the commmon area after the sun goes down, or during the summer at the upper pool in the evening. You will see things are not improving, only getting worse! Do you play basketball on a regular basis, is that why you want them up? I tried to go play 2 weekends ago with some college friends I used to play with, and the kids on the court were rollling a joint, no I didn't ask for a hit, and make friends like you sugggested, but I stayed and shot some hoops anyway even though it was very uncomfortable! I'm so sorry for those people that live right around the common area.. I live 1 block away, and even the noise makers I have in my kids' rooms doesn't fade out the noise level some nights! The board is trying to take a step forward, should everyone have to sufffer, no, but other things have not worked. I was one of those people that pushed for the off duty cops a few years back, when Will and Chuck said we couldn't affford it. If you're not doing anything wrong, then there is no problem. I've talked to the teenagers at Hickory Hills, and they said they always come here to hang, cause nobody reallly cares here. At Hickory Hills they have an active neighborhood watch, where people take an active role in the safety and upkeep of their neighborhood! I feel for both sides of this issue, but everyone needs to listen to those people that are down there and sees what's going on!! By the way, fencing the courts willl help about as much as fencing the tennnis courts; people just crawl under it to ride skateboards. And yes, I have told several kids not to crawl under, to use a key and that the courts are for tennis!!
