] Date Posted: 10:13:17 01/18/03 Sat ok guys, i have an 89 auto lebaron... my car started ok a couple weeks ago, but then i started hearing a pretty loud noise. i guess the torque convertor bolts came a little loose, and started smacking up against the tranny shield. i ended up just taking that tranny shield out for now... i hooked up everything that i had to disconnect to get that shield out, but now it won't start. you can hear the starter pop out, but it won't crank over. i really need my car, and i have no idea what the problem is... thanks in advance guys ed AIM name is boosted lebaron [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |

Date Posted: 12:28:34 01/18/03 Sat A few possibilities I can think of off the top of my head are: Dead battery, Loose connection on the main + wire to the starter, bad solenoid, and a bad or binding starter motor. I'd start with the most obvious first, and check to make sure the battery is still up, and then procede to check any of the wiring that you unhooked to make sure everything is reconnected properly and making good contact. If that fails to solve the problem, you can have the solenoid and starter checked by a local parts store to determine if everything is as it should be. With the starter engaging, but not turning the engine, I'd say the most likely culprit is the main + connection somewhere between the battery and the starter. Do your lights go dim when you try to start it? Tony [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 06:02:55 01/23/03 Thu It's possible the noise you heard was the Bendix drive in the starter staying engaged and hitting the flywheel. This would explain noise than no noise then no start. Replacing the starter is not the hard. I'd try tightening the bolts to the converter too, but I doubt that is where you problem lies they just don't pop out one day and then go away the next. I've been wrong before though. Date Posted: 12:28:52 01/23/03 Thu He got it started. I've been talking to him on AIM. The thing now is that he says it's making an aweful screeching noise. Even though those shields are extremely thin, do you think it's possible that without it something is rubbing? I told him to check and see if anything appeared shiny like it had been rubbing somewhere. Any ideas? Tony [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 13:02:10 01/23/03 Thu If that shield is off it shouldn't make a difference. If he pryed on the shield between the bellhousing and the engine than it verywell could be rubbing. There should be plenty of clearence unless the starter or a shield is missaligned. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 15:16:22 01/23/03 Thu He's got it now. The bellhousing bolts were still loose!!?? He tightened them up and it quieted down. Now he says he's having a problem with it trying to take off from a stop in third occasionally (a413). Valvebody? Governor? Low line pressure? Any ideas? Tony [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |
