I remember the competition in Derby really well. As a young lad I was living in Sinfin but my Nan lived in Mackworth, so I managed to get the Camms buses most of the time. They had some of their own fleetlines and I remember them buying in some ex-Sheffield Altanteans too. They were brill.

Midland Red had their base in Meadow Lane and ran the M1 to Mackworth, the A1 and A2 to Alvaston. I think they ran one to Chadd too. Camms were running at the same time to Blagreaves Lane, Chellaston, Mackworth and Sinfin. I think the Sinfin was numbered 37 and went down Normanton Rd to the Vulcan and then as the number 38 does now. I loved catching that one rather than the DCT via Ivy Sq.

DCT bought out the Midland Red operation and closed the depot, before this, some DCT buses ran in Tamworth in competition with Midland Red.

DCT also bought out Camms. Some of the R and V reg fleetlines were painted in a beige and orange livery. They ran from the depot in Nottingham and DCT even paid Camms rent to keep the buses there rather than at Ascot Drive.

I miss the days of competition. I'm sure someone could give Arriva a run for their money as they run a pretty naff service.
