Subject: Hmmm. I'm not a huge Jurgen fan, (r)

and I will cop to putting him into the fannish SOTW role in some of my earlier stories (which will be edited significantly if they ever manage to make it from WIP to posted status, someday!).

But I don't think that for Nikita to hook up with him, Jurgen has to be a whatever horrible thing it was Michael said he did (which I figure worked for Michael either way it went - either, and more likely, she thought Michael was lying and rushed to defend Jurgen, and to tell him all about what a big jealous meany-head Michael was being, thus working her way further into his confidence so he would let her bugged self into his house, OR, possibility #2, and tiny, but Michael is a risk taker, that Nikita will not interpet everything through the lens of elementary school romance and instead hear in the wild ridiculousness of Michael's story a warning that *something is not right.* It is a warning that I think that by S3, she would have heard and understood, but is still too inexperienced to catch in early S2.)

But anyway - back to Jurgen. He is an admitted blackmailer, who used his power vis a vie Operations and Madeline not as a force of good, but to get the good life. I think that once Nikita got over her intial embarassed guilt, she's going to start thinking about that. She's also going to think about Jurgen's total focus on 'his men' vs. any concern with innocents. Even as someone "only" guilty of fragging a sr. officer who may even for real have been a jerk, Jurgen has character flaws a plenty to help Nikita see his feet of clay. He, of course, is also still a blackmailer - and the person he has the goods on is - her. He will use that.

She will probably then note that Michael has never threatened to 'tell' on her, whatever other manipulations he has accomplished.

Then both men would have been back on equal footing (as equal as anyone can be to Michael, anyway), and Nikita would have to decide with whom, if either, to choose to be.

I guess, in my long winded fashion, I'm saying, I think they are already on pretty equal footing. ;-)

Jurgen has feet of clay, but then, so does Michael.

I also, if you see down below, don't see any necessary reason why she should have to choose - at least, not if she doesn't want to!

Actually - come to think of it, as a troika rather than a couple, they would also totally alter the emerging power dynamics in Section - putting Madeline and Paul in a new position as well. And how would they respond?

So many tantalizing possibilities - so many different stories! LOL!

thought the writers had Nikita jumping him w-a-a-y too soon after Hard Landings. She couldn't possibly have formed as close an attachment yet as she had with Michael.

I actually thought it made sense, because it wasn't really about forming a connection with Jurgen so much as it was showing Michael that she wouldn't be dismissed without information any more - also providing him with an opportunity to not just to show off his jealousy and possessiveness, he demonstrated both amply to all of Section after all, but to change the particular dynamic of their relationship that most pissed her off.

So, while I do think she liked what she knew of Jurgen, and was willing to use that for all sorts of reasons, I don't think Jurgen turned her on in the same kind of basic, now! right now! way that Michael did - and I don't think any of the three of them were at all confused about that. But, on the other hand, I'm not so sure her relationship with Michael could be called 'close' so much as 'intense' - and in fact, part of what upset her so (IMO of course) was that it wasn't a 'close' in the sense of a confiding or supportive relationship. That kind of closeness, Jurgen did seem to be offering and without the same kind of intensity, phyisical or emotional, that made her relationship with Michael so fraught.

So, I think it makes sense on a lot of levels. It's also, I think, fairly revealing about Jurgen that he pressed her so quickly to sleep with him even though he knew full well by then that she'd been vamping him to cover her and Michael's asses, and not because she really was more than mildly interested in him "that way."

I also thought that PW did a nice job of indicating that Niktia wasn't entirely certain it was a good idea either, but deciding in her own powerful way to plunge ahead anyway.

Did the whole Gray Wellman debacle teach her nothing?

Hmm - intersting observation - but I'm not sure I see the connection between Gray - an innocent, and Jurgen - definitely not! LOL!

Could you explain a bit more about what you meant?
