This weekend I'm putting together a rocking chair I purchased in Costa Rica a month ago. The porch seems like a good place for it. Anyone is invited to sit in it and rock on as they must, or simply sit still and enjoy the warmth of the sun. I brought a six-pack of Irish beer to share since St. Patty's day is near. It's good to see everyone rocking and rolling in the mysterious paradox!
I heard part of a Hafiz poem recently where he said, "I am the hole in the flute where the Divine breath blows through." When I heard this, what immediately came popping up is: I am the hole in the flute, the flute, the Divine breath that blows through it and That which is prior to all that arises." All points of view are here, now. Nothing is missing. If no interpretation is added to what is, as is - what could be said about it? For me it's unreasonable laughter. On the other hand if the choice is made to add some interpretation or interpretive play to it, then there it is in all of its wonderfully interdependent (but not really separate) expression - as is. Infinite expressions and infinite emptiness floating in the context of YES. YES to yes; YES to no. Awesome!
I've always liked rockers. Some people get motion-sick in them and prefer to sit still. Rockers move back and forth with such marvelous fluidity from one polarity to the other, and all points in-between. If we take a still picture of the chair when it's in its "back" position, it's easy to conclude from looking at the picture that that's the way it sits permanently. It may not look so comfortable. From the opposite polarity the same is true. The natural position the rocker assumes when there's no energy or motion added to it one way or the other is total stillness right in the middle. However rocking seems to be what we do a lot, unless we don't. Rocking can be fun, or not. As some old Zen guy adroitly put it, "sitting still, doing nothing, spring comes and grass grows by itself." Sitting still can appear to be boring but that would be adding an interpretation to sitting still, wouldn't it? So here we are rocking and rolling - and not. Oh yeah.
Feminine energy is most welcome to the porch! Everyone's bringing lots of free drinks and snacks!
Putting a tantric embrace "spin" on it, it's the man who enters the woman's body, but it's the woman's energy that penetrates the man! We need you ladies! It's getting to be a bit of a boys-band at the moment.
Warmly, John
