so as sarah posted, i did get a little cat.

paul was beyond upset. i think he's a little afraid of cats but he won't admit it. oh well. as each day goes by he does better. i think it's because he can predict his behavior better.

the one thing that didn't help the situation was the pants that paul wore over the first day Jake lived here. pauls pants were all shredded in the knees so they had little dangley strings. naturally jake said 'ooo dangley strings, fun stuff!' and proceeded to try to play with them. nothing says hello like a cat attaching himself to your knees.

but jake is a cool little guy. he's around a year old and jet black. he's got two little white spots, one on his chest and one on his belly. (the same places blue had his) he also has a few white armpit hairs. he can stand on his back feet really well and hides behind my speakers when i am gone. (that behavior is a mystery, but EVERY TIME i have come home, that is where he is.) he also likes to do random divey/flip things into the carpet. its super cute.
another good things is he hasn't tried to kill any of my other pets yet.

he was named jake after jake from the blues brothers. he's got that black and white thing going on and he started out in jail. it just works for him.

yay! cats!

Jake is a good name. I'm still calling mine Littlecat. I am also occasionally calling him "Scout" or "Weasel-ball". Somehow weasel-ball is fitting.

When he really gets into kitten-crackhead mode, he tears around the apartment, just running laps or jumping on and off furniture. A lot of this running is that weasel/ferret style with his back arched up and bouncing gait. Hence the name, Weasel-ball.

I can sympathize with Paul on the pants thing. I have scratches all up and down my legs from the kitten trying (and succeeding) to climb me. He is especially prone to this behavior when I am preparing his food. I stand at the counter, put the food in his dish and Kitty's, then clean up a bit. When it's time to actually give them the food, Kitty runs to his placemat (making noise the whole time--a sound like Marge Simpson's groan of disapproval), and the Littlecat does the weasel-run to the bathroom, where he is fed.

How big is Jake? Not that large if he's dangling from pants legs, huh? Kitty weighed 15 pounds at his last vet check--he's now on a diet, and will weigh in again next week. Littlecat weighed 1 pound, 8 ounces when I brought him home. He's gained about 5 or 6 ounces since then. I thought about it the other night, my little 1.5 pound kitten, and realized that I weigh about as much as 120 kittens. Give yourself a minute to get the visual. :)

That's enough static electricity to jump start a car on a cold morning.

So that would be why you called my store and abruptly demanded to know whether it was Jake or Elwood that was in prison, then yelled "YES!" when I told you it was Jake and promptly hung up? One of my little mysteries has been solved.

And, as a review, folks, let's all remember that he was called "Joliet Jake" because of his stint in prison.

Ah, yes. The one movie in which we get to see Frank Oz handling a used condom. God (or other major deity of your choice) bless the Blues Brothers.

Your choice in names is stellar. Ya make yer big sister proud....
