• Guilty? What for? IMHO the catholic church - and please I do not want to offend anybody who believes in the catholic church!!! This is just my opinion :-) - made some terrible mistakes and broke some of their own rules during the crusader wars and during the inquisition. They killed 1000s of people in the name of god. Another thing I dont like about this particular church is - I know I may sound very simple - that you could almost do everything, even murder, then you go to church, confess and you get your penance and everything is fine. • I agree w/Andrea (waving!) and of course, no offense! It's just my opinion also! I can't justify any religion killing people by the tens of thousands, no matter what they believe in to please whoever they pray to. I was brought up Presbyterian and although I looked for specific answers, I feel that for me, taking things that make sense from many different religions is the most comfortable. I know I've had many past lives and have many memories from at least 3 of them - very vivid ones that I can't deny. I think that's why I'm comfortable taking bits and pieces from many religions/cultures. I never did feel guilty about my choices along the way. I try not to feel guilty about anything unless it's warranted. People/cultures/religions that try to make one feel guilty in order to serve their purposes is one of the worst things I can think of. • I used to feel kind of guilty, well that was built into the whole religious instruction (went to a Catholic elementary school, Catholic high school for girls and a Jesuit university, although it was there that I actually took some interesting theology courses that were required that really made me think even more). Sometimes I feel a bit uncomfortable when my Catholic friends talk about their kids making their communion and confirmation and I feel that there is that question lurking, how come my kids aren't. My excuse usually is that they go to the Greek Orthodox church with my husband and things are done differently. Sometimes I just say that I'm just not very religious anymore.   • Ron, that was a beautiful, honest post and I would thoroughly enjoy having a discussion with you and whoever else would like to join in. Like you and Betsy, one of the integral church experiences of my youth was singing all kinds of wonderful church songs. I have my own methodist hymnal and it is such a joy for me to flip thru it and sing from memory many of the songs. I missed that singing the most all those years I was practicing catholicism. The church of my youth also had a fantastic choir that used to sing glorious selections such as Handel's Messiah. (I'm a soprano and hitting the high notes in "Messiah" was a spiritual experience *G*). As with most of us here, I continue to assemble my own beliefs about God and Jesus. The next church we attend will be chosen for it's musical selections. I can take care of my own spirituality. • I absolutely do NOT feel guilty, but that is in part because I was brought up very open-minded about religious concepts. We were also brought up to question authority, not to bite hook, line, and sinker onto whatever supposed authorites have to say. But my husband had a far different experience. Like Maria, he had 12 years of catholic schooling where guilt and conformity were the norm. He once said that he didn't realize that he was creative until he was in his 30's. • Hi J. Been meaning to email you but have hardly had time to turn on the computer lately it seems. Summer is going by too fast. Anyway, it probably varies by state, but in Michigan you need a chauffer license to drive any commercial vehicle under 26,000 pound GVW. I have a chauffer endorsement and can drive medium to light duty wreckers, flatbeds, etc. Over that and you need a CDL. That would be bigger rigs, hauling semi's, etc. The University of Georgia had a correspondence course in towing, it was very informative.   • Up to the part about Jesus being married, everything you have written here is easily found in Biblical scholarship. The paragraph about Jesus as a human is the only part of what you wrote here that is full of holes and speculation. The rest is easily found in historical documents of the time. The best scholarship is when many learned people who study every aspect of life during a certain time are able to get together and compare notes. It is my belief that the Power of the organized church has been sitting on the truth of things for far too long. We don't hear enough about what the Vatican has hidden in it's vast library. We don't get a balanced view of how the RC church has the traditions it ended up with. The Nicean Council is a fact that the church does not teach because then their infalibility can be called into question.   • A lot of that book was thoroughly researched, Iīve heard. I do believe it really was like that, because it was also researched that Satan and hell, the concept of guilt and sin, didnīt exist before Constantine. I have a book about angels that says spiritual guides were shown as christian angels very late, along with pictures of evil spirits, devils and demons. All that didnīt exist before. • Thanks for the kind thot's you guys. The armed guard showed up today and will be there most of this week. The police are dusting the letter in hopes to find finger prints (they have the "suspects" prints on file) and see if it is in fact who they think it might be.   • I meant to add that my dd and I have come across some really good books by an author who happens to live in our town. His name is Christopher Penczak and he is a witch, but his views are totally blending of all spiritual thoughts. Magic is simply knowing how to use the energy that is all around us. And the best part is that he explains that our Inner Temple is our personal sacred space where there are no boundaries and all things are possible. All the spiritual reading I have done lately all comes down to strengthening our Inner Temples, our Sacred Hearts, our chakra/energy system, our Expanded Consciousness. He speaks of individual and personal connections, the interconnectedness of all. He says, "Empowerment and (personal) responsibility are the heart, and true lesson, of magick." • Well Antje there is rain here too!! Sorry about the washing machine. Well I just started my day with one load of laundry in the washer. Today is my son's preschool graduation, held at the church. I'll start crying when the kids are singing "Love Grows" or "Make New Friends!" The school does a very sweet ceremony. When my DD graduated they had a bagpiper lead the kids down the aisle.     • It was a very nice ceremony and yes the bagpiper was there. Looked kind of like the pied piper leading the children down the center aisle to the front of the church!! Started getting misty eyed when I first heard strains of the pipes. The kids were all very cute singing their songs and going up for their little diplomas. Off to finish that laundry. • I have been doing laundry for a week straight (I lost count of how many loads), after having spent all my time outside for 2 weeks spreading mulch on newly weeded and edged beds.... in the rain we had every day. We had one day of perfect sunshine yesterday, but that is just a memory now. More rain today and expected daily for the next week. The strawberries are big and fat but totally green because they haven't had any sun. How sad is that. I am happy to say though, that I do not have any renovations in mind for my house, other than deciding on paint colors.   • I'm just getting around to catching up on everyone's postings. I live on the south shore of Long Island. Actually, within a 15 mile radius of my town (Baldwin), there are at least 4 Greek Orthodox churches. I saw the My Big Fat Greek Wedding too. I never laughed as hard as I did. My husband is Greek and he does that thing with words having Greek roots. During the movie I kept jabbing him about that. We have some Greek friends who were just like that when it came to their daughter going out with an Italian American. My husband and I did a lot of talking to them (mostly the husband) to give some open minded insight to the situation. Everything turned out OK for the daughter. She will be marrying her Italian. • I never knew a priest as good as to talk with him esoteric topics! But once I knew a very worldly priest :-). I used to work as a cinema manager and when Sister Act 2 was released I wanted to have a mass in the cinema for PR. Dont get me wrong I didnt want to have the money! • There was one priest we had for a while who I swear was also studying Eastern thought because some of his homilies were so refreshing in their mix of Christianity from a new perspective. But sadly, he didn't stay long. And I didn't have the guts to go speak with him about these things because at the time, I was doing my best to fit in with the Catholic thing for the sake of "bringing the kids up in the church" that was so important for my husband, and I thought that if I were to speak of my views that it would somehow wreck it for the family. I've heard of other churches (not catholic) now having the same problems, accusations of child molestation along with an organization that is not religious. I have TONS of gray hair ( I noticed DG spells that grey), I had to have an eye exam and next I am going to need reading glasses, I still need to lose 30 pds, NOT easy now. I have arthritis in my knees, joints that are loose. At least my teeth arent falling out. I am dead tired all the time, it is a permanent part of my life.   • ROTFL!!!! Needless to say - you are not alone with all that! I notice falling apart signs on me as well! Whatīs really bothering me is, I get all sorts of things on my body that werenīt there before, like dark spots on my hands, and in my face! Yuck! A skin doc said he could make them go away, by putting some acid stuff on them. They would fall off and new clean skin would build up. • Hi Linda, I was very attracted to this board too and started joining in on the conversations a few months ago. I have also read the "Conversations" books and loved them. Yes, it also touched a place of truth in me and it made me FEEL GOOD! I think that is the key. When we know something is right for us it makes us feel good. I think that is why God has given us the feeling emotions. When we feel good, it is right and our thoughts about it are right. Sometimes we think we may "want" to do something, but somehow it doesn't feel right. That's probably something that would not be a good idea to do. There are things that I have "wanted" to do in life, but somehow there was this nagging feeling that it just wasn't right. While at the time I felt it was something that I wanted, I just didn't feel all that good about it.Months and years later I was so glad that I did not make that choice. I hope this makes sense.     • Oh my, itīs spooky when that happens! When my DD was about 4 she said things like that of her "past" as well. But even if I encouraged her to tell us about, that phases didnīt last long and she forgot everything quickly. I believe kids do carry those memories for awhile, and they find it totally normal too.         • Hi Jeannine and everyone. I've only had time to lurk these past few days and am just catching up on the conversations. The thing with your daughter, I agree with you, I think she probably is remembering past life stuff. Maybe the reason for still remembering at this age is that you encourage her to talk about it and don't embarass her in talking about it or discourage her from talking and thinking about it. My oldest daughter had an "imaginary friend" ....Paco and Baby. She would go on and on with stories about them.I was absolutely fascinated with it. When her sister came along, she was about four, it gradually started to decrease as she spent more time with talking to her new sister. My daughter is 19 years old now and she still has some vague collections about it. She remembers that Paco and Baby finally told her they had to go and they left on a plane.
