Subject: Comparing Raul's current season to Mitro's best PL season (2022/23).

Was looking at some basic stats comparing Raul's season so far to Mitro's in the season we came up, when he became a truly proven top-class striker. I hadn't realized quite how remarkably similar their stats are. You can see the comparison in full at fbref.com/tiny/IYSge. Some key stats (sorry not pretty to read but hopefully the point comes across).

Mitro (per 90): 0.63 goals, 0.04 assists, 0.67 goal involvements, 0.67 expected goals, 0.1 expected assists, 0.77 expected goal involvements, 0.39 non-penalty expected goals, 0.49 non-penalty expected goal involvements. 48.8% of aerial duels won, 68% of passes completed, 2.47 shot-creating actions per 90, 2.91 miscontrols per 90, Dispossessed 2.6 times per 90.

Raul (per 90): 0.59 goals, 0.15 assists, 0.74 goal involvements, 0.55 expected goals, 0.16 expected assists, 0.71 expected goal involvements, 0.37 non-penalty expected goals, 0.53 non-penalty expected goal involvements. 41.7% of aerial duels won, 60.3% of passes completed, 1.98 shot-creating actions per 90, 2.65 miscontrols per 90, Dispossessed 1.62 times per 90.

Basically, these two seasons are incredibly similar. Mitro was statistically slightly more of a goal scoring and aerial threat, while Raul has been slightly more of a creative outlet offering quite significantly more control of the ball (as I think we would all expect). But ultimately the differences between the two on the core role of the striker is extremely narrow. I used to think we replaced Mitro in the aggregate between Raul and Muniz, but now it's looking more and more like Raul has been an effective straight replacement for Mitro and the aggregate Mitro + Vini has been resoundingly improved upon with Raul + Muniz.
