Subject: Kye Walker-Peters

While we're talking about possible signings next year, I just realized that Kyle Walker-Peters is out of contract this summer and with Saints going down he's not signing a new one. We've talked a bit of late about potential full-back upgrades on the right side and he seems like a pretty ideal player to replace Tete. Right in our standard age-range (27), lots of the Premier League experience that we like, a career that has somewhat stalled. Can play on the left and right (so good insurance for injuries or if Robinson leaves), and has played the role of the full-back that steps into central midfield that we saw of Tete this year. Incredible dribbling ability with his right foot. Decent ability to pass and shoot with both feet. Good pace. Good defender. Durable. Seems like a good bet. Looking at some per 90 minutes numbers from this season in comparison with Robinson, Tete and Castagne, there is some impressive stuff.

He hasn't been quite the attacking player that Robinson, who has received a ridiculous 8.04 progressive passes per 90, but he's been more so than Castagne (3.64) and Tete (2.79). But some of his attacking numbers are very impressive. His biggest strength for instance is his ability to dribble and carry the ball. Comparing the four players he's 1st in progressive carries/90 with 3.77 (Robinson=3.52, Tete=2.36, Castagne=1.18), leading to 139.2 progressive yards gained (Robinson=125.2, Tete=79.2, Castagne=71.2), 2.24 carries per 90 into the final third (Robinson=1.76, Tete=1.21, Castagne=0.55), 0.92 carries into the penalty area (Robinson=0.88, Tete=0.5, Castagne=0.09), and 0.26 shot creating actions from taking players on (Tete=0.14, Castagne=0.09, Robinson=0.04)

His passing is also strong. He beats our players with progressive passes with 4.30 per 90 (Robinson=3.72, Castagne=3.64, Tete=3), leading to 139.2 progressive yards per 90 (Robinson=125.2, Tete=79.6, Castagne=71.2) and pass completion rates (88.2% vs 82.9% for castagne, 81.6% for Tete, and 76.7% for Robinson), though he has very rarely gone long (just 2.68 attempts per 90 compared to 4.04 for Robinson, 3.29 for Tete, and 2.36 for Castagne), meaning his actual distance gained at 2.08.6 yards is lower than our players (307.3 for Robinson, 227.8 for Castange, 216.6 for Tete) and his passing completion numbers are probably higher as a result of that. Still he has been decently creative with what he's done with 0.88 key passes per 90 (Robinson=1.32, Castagne=0.55, Tete=0.36) and 1.18 shot creating actions from passes (Robinson=2.36, Tete=1.14, Castange=1.09). He's not much of a crosses though with just 0.09 completed crosses into the penalty area per 90 (Robinson=0.96, Tete=0.29, Castange=0.18) out of just 1.84 crosses as a whole (Robinson=4.96, Castagne=2.36, Tete=1.36).

Defensively, he has paled in comparison to our players. He's won possession back with the tackle just 0.92 times per 90 (Tete=1.93, Robinson=1.72, Castagne=1.36) with just a 48.1% success rate stopping those dribbling at him (Castgne=63.6%, Tete=60.75, Robinson=48.4%), has intercepted the ball just 0.61 times per 90 (Tete=2, Robinson=1.8, Castagne=1.09), and has won a paltry 33.3% of his aerial duels (Robinson=60.4%, Tete=57.7%, Castagne=44.4%). He has, however, blocked a lot of shots (0.57 per 90 compared to Tete at 0.43, Castagne at 0.18, and Robunson at 0.16). And overall his career numbers on defensive metrics are much more in line with the career numbers of the others, with the exception of aerial duels. So it's possible that his defensive numbers are being suppressed by struggles all around him.
