But now he's telling people off again. The post about Leno gives facts to suggest his performance was markedly better last season and even better the season before. - Most of us, I think (and me for sure) are perfectly happy to disagree with each other. If you are too, then that's great. On the particular topic of Leno, leaving yours or my personal impressions aside, there are recorded facts (below) about aspects of his performance a) compared to himself in successive seasons b) compared to his peers.   - Stats to meet are not important as to what I see. We are probably going g to have our best ever season and best ever points tally. The whole team including Leno deserve praise for that. Added to this fact if we had both defended so badly in losing points in extra time ,we would probably be challenging for Champions league spots. - One of the things I have never really understood is why such a high premium is placed on keepers saves rather than eg defensive headers or tackles.   - Your comment neatly encapsulates the "post-shot expected goals" stat. When you say "just about every save I'd expect any EPL keeper to make" that's what the stat is measuring. If you make every save you're expected to make your score would be 0, doing your job. When its fairly far negative, like Leno's, you are hurting your team more than an average keeper. When above, you're helping it more than average. Its how you can measure contributions above/below normal to winning & losing.     - Maybe I set the bar too high but I think most epl keepers should be able to make the saves that all epl keepers make. It is the mistakes they make that they should be primarily judged on.       - It is absolutely more subjective than other data. All the expected goals stuff is as it requires someone to make a subjective choice about what happened. At a minimum its more dispassionate and recorded vs based on emotion and memory. But is flawed. However, I and it agrees with your high standard. So it does fit what you are saying.
