Subject: Forest

I'm late to the party and have only just read about the confrontation Marinakis had with Nuno after the Leicester game. My initial thought was that his grievances should have been put on ice until a more appropriate time, ideally in private. It also seemed outrageous that he's angry with a manager who has taken the club from relegation fodder to European football in 2 seasons. But perhaps that level of ruthlessness is justified, and arguably the very reason Forest have done so remarkably well. After all, he's spent hundreds of millions servicing the ambition of the fanbase and delivered on the promise of Europe. At least the supporters know they have an owner who wants success and will not passively tolerate poor performances or decision making. The squad will also now know they have to give 100% because they're dealing with someone who clearly doesn't take prisoners.
I'm still disinclined to agree with his actions but there's also a side that feels that perhaps owners, and supporters are too forgiving of failure. The owners fork out millions and the supporters pay hard earned cash to watch the games and buy the merchandise, but it's the multi millionaire managers and players who, more often than not, are awarded sympathy. How many times do we hear or read comments like: Get behind the team and/or manager after a string of bad performances. Or the player just "Needs an arm around his shoulder" or "He's lacking confidence" etc. Well, he wasn't lacking confidence or needed a cuddle when he signed £100k p/w contract. Noooooo, he was full of bloody beans then.
Maybe Marinakis has the right attitude after all.
