Subject: Recent track record? We lost Tosin & bought Andersen. We anticipated a time without Ream & Willian by bringing in Bassey & Iwobi earlier. We've done the same with Cairney now with ESR. We haven't missed a beat with Palhinha because Lukic was ready & brought Berge in also. Hell we even managed 16 goals in 36 starts from Muniz & Raul after Mitro left! Just because we haven't always waited until a player is gone to have a replacement ready doesn't mean we're doing it wrong; quite the contrary!

  • I’ll give you Anderson for tosin. But iwobi was never meant to replace Willian. The French kid that turned us down on deadline day was meant for that. Mitro still not replaced and we got lucky that lukic stepped up, as no one would start palhinhas actual replacement berge ahead of lukic.   • French kid/Nelson may have replaced Willian's squad position but I'm sure Iwobi was bought to take over from him: (1) Under Marco players generally don't go straight into the team, we're less reactive, more prepared (see Bassey/Ream, ESR/Cairney); (2) last season Iwobi didn't have a fixed position - odd for a record signing - but he does now; (3) we have a statistically-driven recruitment & Willian/Iwobi were each their no 1 stats comparison in world football when Iwobi was bought per fbref (NT) -- eganonoa, Tuesday, October 22, 02:40:37am (pierce.valueunltd.com/104.234.212.9)
  • Also re: "we got lucky that lukic stepped up," what has luck got to do with it!? He was coached into the role, given progressively more responsibility last season & brought back early over the summer when others had time off post-Euros/Copa. Is your idea that we should only buy a direct replacement after a player is sold? Absurd if so. We've developed a stable, forward-thinking recruitment policy that's demonstrably working: 1st team replacement pre-bought, squad replacement post-departure.
