Though you are right to some degree, you aren't totally correct. Space travel from one world to another actually took months. Think about it, that's like the difference between travel when they had sailing ships and travel now with airplanes. The same journey across the Atlantic Ocean between North America and Europe that used to take several months now takes like 5 hours.
And it has revolutionized the world economically and politically. More important than the travel is the communication. If you sent a message back in the 1700's from Virginia to England, it would take months, now we can talk on the telephone relatively instantaneously. If the Spice can allow just that difference in travel and communication, it really is a big deal.

Also, considering that the Spice extends life for many many years, it is a much bigger deal than you seem to think. Most people given the opportunity to live an extra hundred years wouldn't think of it as no big deal.

Also, the Bene Gesserit power to retain memories of others, have limited view of the future, and tell if people are lying or not aren't just mere trifles. I think having someone else's memories and being able to see into the future is a pretty big thing.

So while maybe the Legends of Dune books may seem to have pretty powerful technology almost on par with the classic Dune, I still think the Spice really makes a big difference and would greatly change the state of the Emperium.
