Subject: I wasn't that disappointed...
In reply to: El Duque 's message, "The Pitt game" on Thursday, December 02, 09:45:17am

Pitt is bigger, stronger, deeper and more experienced and has played several more games against much better competition. I think you can say that about just about every Pitt-Duquesne matchup of the last 25 years or so. The names change, the competitive dynamics don't. Deal with it. Duquesne doesn't get to share a city with Seton Hall, Rutgers, DePaul, Providence, St. John's or even Cincinnati. It shares a city with one of the premier college basketball programs in the country that annually recruits the best talent from the best high school programs in the country.

I was expecting the Dukes to roll over several times and this to turn into a 20-30-point rout, something I've seen many times before (Charles Smith/Jerome Lane era anyone?). Instead I saw a team that kept battling, that forced turnovers, that took care of the ball, that went on runs. With a few more made free throws (I don't think 65-70% is too much to expect from a D-I team) and maybe even sinking a few of the wide-open 3s that were missed, this would have been a very close game. Let me guess, Dixon didn't want to run the score up because he's RE's friend? Please, Pitt was still trying to score and play defense from what I could see. 12 wins, IrishSTH? Really? You mean in the conference? The A-10 is way down this year. Please look at the scores from last night. Would you rather be rooting for the team that struggled with Pitt's size or the team that struggled with Drexel's size? The team schooled by Pitt or the team schooled by Harvard? The team overmatched against Pitt or the team overmatched against Miami, Ohio? (sorry Snipe, wherever you are). If this team gets free-throw shooting figured out, who knows. I expect a lot of wins this season, starting with Saturday night...
