• TMH, the team does not bus everywhere. I remember several games where Ray Goss commented on hoping they make their flight. As far as getting back in a snow storm it is pretty hard to fly when the planes are grounded. That is why Ron took the bus back from DC during that horrible snow storm. I would think sometimes logistics play in travel plans, like the trip to Canada. Easier to bus and haul equipment around when playing in various locations. The team does bus to Dayton, Xavier, Olean, Philly (sometimes), but IMHO that has more to do with DU's travel budget than Ron's aversion to flying. (NT) -- CLK, Friday, September 10, 08:12:47pm

• CLK, good comments. Team was snowed in at Drake & forecast was showing that flights thru Chicago wouldn't get back to normal for 36 hrs; Ron made a judgement call. Ron does NOT have any aversion to flying. In fact, he would like to have charter flights to almost every game. If they have to fly commercial, they can't fly out after night games - in many cases, they would not arrive until afternoon the next day, missing classes. The bus back from Dayton, X, GW, Philly is much more time efficient that flying commercial; charters take care of those issues, but it's not always in the budget.     • El Duque, that's exactly what the Fat Man in St. Louis has been and is demanding from SLU and their alums. I remember that he decided to protest the lack of charters by boycotting his own radio show last year. He's already complaining about the A-10 schedule this year. It is a big deal in today's world of college athletics, especially with the difficulty of commercial air travel (lack of direct flights, security, delays, etc.). I'm pretty sure that donors fund some of the charters that the Dukes have used. BTW, I believe that a charter for a 300 mile trip will run about $10K. • TMH, it is puzzling why the Dukes aren't in some tourney this year. RE's yr 1 they went to Toronto for preseason; nothing for the season. Yr 2 they went to the Drake invite, playing Cal St. Northridge & Drake. Yr 3 nothing (but had Carolina trip over Thanksgiving). Yr 4 was CBE Classic; that was originally planned for Boca Raton but changed by CBE at the last minute to W. Carolina. I understand that you need to get invited to these events & the Dukes for many reasons are not the ideal visitor-maybe a party crasher. But I do think coach & AD need to do a better job on this.   • One other thing; teams can play in an exempt tourney every year. They changed the rule a few years ago when you were limited to playing in only 2 exempt tourneys every 4 years. The only rule that I'm aware of is that you can't play in the same exempt tourney for 5 years, so the Dukes can't be invited back to the CBE for 4 more years. This change of the exempt rule has hurt teams like the Dukes;because now larger BCS schools can play every year in some exempt tourney. The exempt organizers want these large schools with a large fan base for attendance vs. a school like Duquesne. (NT) -- Phoenix Rising, Friday, September 10, 09:16:32pm
