Even real Generals visit the wounded and ask how they're doing and lay hands upon shoulders etc
Or in Patton's case, slap the wounded.

I think Buffy was still human and I definitely still cared for her. The show was exploring different aspects of her humanity both in S6 and S7. I loved both seasons - I never really embraced the high school as hell metaphor of the earlier seasons. Buffy was having a tough time and she was troubled as to how to react to developing events. I found a real emotional resonance in her struggle and it made the show more true to life. Buffy was changing as her life experiences changed and I think this really contributed to the strength of the series but this is just a personal opion - everyone has their own perspectives which is no doubt affected by their own experiences. The episode that really convinced me that Buffy was an exceptional series was Afterlife where she told Spike that she had been torn out of heaven. I thought a show that would go there was for sure worth loving.
