Shantal nodded and squeezed his hand softly. Standing up she slowly pulled her hand from Michael’s grasp.

“Don’t worry Michael, relax and I’ll get Gadari to come help me.”

Michael nodded and sighed. Running his fingers through his hair he closed his eyes and tried to ignore the smell. Suddenly he jerked up, his eyes snapping open as he searched the surrounding darkness.

“I know that scent, but from where?” He thought as his gaze roamed the dark passage. The scent permeated the entire passage, making Michael clamp his fingers over his nose to breathe. “I know this smell.” He winced as his memory betrayed him once again. “Who used to smell this way? And why does this smell make me so angry?”

Shaking his head he slowly chuckled. “You’re hallucinating my friend. Those drugs you’ve been fed have screwed with your mind already!” He stated, trying hard to stamp down the uneasy feeling that he knew that smell, it was a soft spicy smell, combined with........”eau de sweat” shaking his head he chuckled softly once again and rested his head back against the wall to wait for Gadari.

It didn’t take long, Michael jumped as Gadari knelt and reached inside the passage to drag him out. Michael went limp and unresisting as the large guard grabbed his shoulders and gently dragged him back into the bedroom.

Gadari carefully helped Michael to stand, Michael’s left arm wrapped around Gadari’s massive shoulders. Gadari’s gaze shifted downward as he felt Michael’s legs collapse under his weight. He wrapped his arms tighter around Michael’s waist. He shivered as he felt the gentle touch of Shantal’s hand on his arm. Turning he gazed tenderly at her.

“He’s too weak to walk Gadari, carry him to the garden please.”

Gadari nodded and shifted his hold on Michael. Looking into the younger man’s pale gaze he shrugged and gently lifted him into his arms.

Michael clenched his teeth over his lower lip, he wanted to protest but knew his body was still too weak to sustain him. He closed his eyes and fought back the desolation he felt as he was carried to the gardens.

“I’m worthless now, nothing better than a pile of merde! I can’t even stand on my own two feet. How Madeline would laugh if she could see me now, as weak as a babe.” he thought.

Once Gadari settled Michael on a bench outside in the garden, he straightened up and glared at Shantal as she gently held Michael against her.

“How long have you known about the passage?”

Shantal buried her fingers in Michael’s hair, she looked down and allowed her gaze to roam his naked body for further injuries, not finding any she slowly lifted
her gaze to meet Gadari’s.

“I didn’t know about the passage, I swear!”

Michael felt her hands shaking and quickly pulled them down to clasp them in his large ones. Her gaze shifted down and glared into his pale green Jade eyes. Noticing the effort it took for Michael to stop shaking, keep calm and give her his support, she nodded and smiled softly.

Turning to stare into Gadari’s eyes, she noticed the spark of sadness in his eyes and sighed, shaking her head she pulled her hands away from Michael and approached her guard.

“I tell the truth Gadari, I never knew that behind that painting of the old pasha was a corridor. Why don’t you send one of the guards to investigate.”

Gadari stared deeply into Shantal’s dark eyes, seeing the truth shining there in their depths he slowly nodded and turned, leaving the couple alone.

During the entire conversation Michael’s gaze searched for the food, the scent was so overpowering that it was almost painful. His stomach growled loudly as hunger pains began to stab his belly. He lifted his gaze to meet Shantal’s worried one.

“Are you alright Michael?” she asked as she took a seat beside him.

Michael nodded slowly, his gaze riveted on the small fire. “I’m fine.” he stated softly.

Shantal smiled. “I’m sure you are, but might you be hungry also?”

Michael’s gaze snapped back to meet Shantal’s dark one, shining softly with mirth. He lowered his lashes and hid his too expressive eyes. In an almost inaudible whisper he answered her question.

“A bit.” Cringing at that small admission of humanity.

Nodding she stood and rushed to the fire, where she placed two sunny side up eggs and bacon, plus two biscuits on a large plate, she served the hot liquid from the cauldron into a deep bowl and returned to Michael’s side.

Taking the spoon she carefully lifted the spoon to his lips. At his glare she slowly lowered the bowl to the bench and placed the spoon inside.

“It’s not drugged.” she stated softly. “It’s simple turtle soup. It’ll do your stomach good after so many days without proper nourishment.”

Michael’s distrust became weaker as his stomach rumbled indignantly again. His lips quirked softly up as he stared down at his belly.

“It seems that my body betrays me even now, in my hour of dire need.” He stated as he took Shantal’s hand. “Will you help me eat?” lifting his shaking hands he demonstrated his weakness.

Shantal nodded and quickly began to feed Michael. She shivered every time he opened his mouth for another spoonful of the delicious soup.

“How can I be so disloyal?” She asked herself as she fed Michael. “My libido has taken over my rational mind once again.” She gazed tenderly at Michael as he slowly ate. “Just take him home and then disappear, return home yourself. Your papa and mama must think you’re dead by now.”

Michael closed his eyes, enjoying the creamy delicacy as his mind threatened to shame him with his desire for this young girl. “You should be ashamed.” He scolded himself. “She is risking her life to help you and all you can think about is to enjoy that delicate and sumptuous body!” He lifted his gaze and met Shantal’s dark gaze, feeling shame and desire rush inside his body, he clamped his lips closed and shook his head.

“No more please.” he stated as he slowly slid away from her side. Lifting his hands to his head he slowly massaged the ache that had settled permanently on his temples. “I think I should sleep a bit more.”

Shantal dropped the bowl of soup and gently placed her hands on top of his own.

“How bad is the pain Michael? Are your ears ringing? Are you dizzy?”

Michael snorted softly. He slipped his hands from under her touch and allowed her to softly massage his skin. The delicious feeling of contentment spread softly down his body, warming him more than the savory soup could. He fought the strange feeling that began to spread inside his chest. Shaking himself he slowly detached her warm hands from his temples. Pushing himself he forced his legs to
support his weight.

“Michael?”

Michael’s gaze shifted toward hers. Shrugging he slowly stepped away from her.

“Please allow me to rest, I..........” Shaking his head he cautiously made his way to the bedroom. He collapsed heavily upon the large pillows. A soft moan escaping his lips as his head settled comfortably on them.

Gadari watched Michael stumble back into the room and reached out, clasping her wrist he slowly shook his head.

“Give him time, he’s not ready to deal with his emotions yet.”

Shantal jerked her arm from his grasp.

“How would you know? You haven’t been drugged and kidnaped like-“

Gadari hissed softly.

“I haven’t been kidnaped? I don’t know what it’s like to be drugged?” He spun away from her and walked to the edge of the garden. Wrapping his arms around his waist he breathed deeply.

Shantal winced and followed him.

“I didn’t mean-“

Gadari lifted his hand. “I know too well what he is going through, I was drugged, taken from my home and turned into this........thing.” He stated as he waved his hand in front of himself.

Shantal sighed. Reaching out she wrapped her hand over his wrist. “Gadari please......I didn’t mean to insult you. I just.......” She let go of his hand and slowly stepped back. “I’m sorry.” She whispered.

Gadari nodded slowly. Turning he gazed at Shantal. “No, I’m the one who is sorry for-“

Shantal placed her fingers against his lips. “Gadari, I’m sorry, I wish there was some way I could fix what Rahine did to you. But believe me when I say that you are not a thing! You’re a wonderful man who risks his life to help me.”

Gadari smiled softly, softly kissing her fingers he stepped back.

“I know what I am, I’m not a man anymore Shantal.” He stated.

Shantal shook her head, denying his statement.

"You’re more than a man, you have suffered torture and dismemberment and still are loyal. I haven’t met another
man who could still survive. You are unique, extremely special and you’ll see that someday there will be a woman who will love you as you deserve, no matter what has been done to you.”

Gadari smiled, knowing that her statement was true. His strength and mind were not damaged, only his manhood and maybe, if alla desired it some woman would deem him worthy of her love.

Shantal stepped close and gently wrapped her arms around his massive chest. She buried her face against his throat and gently squeezed.

“Shantal, what will you do if you cannot take him home? “ Gadari asked.

Shantal stepped back. Shaking her head softly she closed her eyes and rubbed the back of her neck. “I don’t know, he needs his wife and children. He needs to return to his home just as we need to return to ours.” taking a deep breath she turned and stared at Michael, his head pillowed against his folded arms.

Gadari followed her gaze and sighed. “You love him don’t you?”

Shantal cringed. She turned slowly back to glare at Gadari. “How can you tell?”

Gadari shrugged. “It’s not difficult to see, you care for him with such tenderness.”

Shantal shook her head. “I’ve fought so hard to hide my feelings Gadari, if you can see through the mask then everyone else can too.”

Gadari reached out and gently brushed his fingers down her cheek.

“I don’t think anyone can see through it, just Omar and I, and maybe Michael.”

Shantal stepped away from him. “He’s been awfully needy lately, and I know he enjoys my touch, but.........Ohhh how embarrassing if he knows how I feel!”

Shantal turned and exited the gardens. She returned to the bathroom and finished showering, her hands gently brushing her skin as she imagined Michael would do.

“Forget it! He will never touch you this way!” She hissed at herself as she slowly slipped down to sit on the cold floor, tears falling down her cheeks to mingle with the cool water that flowed over her pale skin.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Nikita knelt on the large bed, her knees pressed apart as another spasm racked her body. Her arms shook as she tried hard to clamp her legs apart and hold her child inside.

“You must allow me to call Frank Nikita, you need the doctor now.”

Nikita shook her head, brushing the soft pale strands away from her eyes she glared at the old woman.

“No, this child will not be born, I just need to-“ Nikita doubled over, her head buried deep in the pillows as she smothered a moan as another spasm racked her entire frame.

The older woman shook her head and gently massaged Nikita’s shoulders.

“Listen to me, this child will be born and sooner than we think, you’ve been in active labor for almost two days now. If you continue to force this labor to stop you will damage your child. What if Michael is truly alive? What will you tell him when he returns and he finds this baby damaged or dead because you did not allow nature to take it’s course?”

Nikita lifted her sweat drenched face and glared at her. “It’s too early! I’m only eight and a half months pregnant, it’s too early.”

The older woman sighed and gently brushed Nikita’s pale hair off her eyes.

“You don’t know that, some women give birth this early, some even earlier and the babies are fine. Please just let me bring the doctor.”

Nikita gasped as another pain shot through her abdomen. She looked up and nodded.

“Do it, please hurry.” She whispered as she pressed her face against the pillows once again.

Nadine or Nanna as she as she was known inside section rushed down the hallway toward the elevators. Pressing the button she turned and searched for Frank, seeing him walking out of Adam’s room she quickly ran toward him.

“Get the doctor, Nikita’s in labor.”

Frank became as pale as wax. Nodding he stepped passed Nadine and quickly entered the elevator. “Go to her, I’ll get back Asap.” He stated as the doors closed.

Nadine crossed herself and quickly returned to Nikita’s side. She squeezed the excess water out of the cool towel and gently wiped the sweat and tears off Nikita’s face and neck.

“Breathe child, breathe deep and exhale softly, scream if you must. But don’t keep the child inside. I’m here and will help you if the doctor doesn’t arrive in time.” Nadine whispered as she carefully forced Nikita to lay on her back, pilling several pillows under her back.

Nikita nodded and laid back as the pain diminished. She closed her eyes and allowed her body to go limp.

“Michael where are you? I need you here now!” She thought as she drifted in that blessed state between unconsciousness and alertness. She felt her skin expand
and shrink as the pain began again. She lifted herself and clasped her hands around her knees, bearing down as another sharp pain cursed through her belly.

Nadine jumped as the door slammed open, turning she watched as Frank, Birkoff, Walter and the doctor rushed into the room. She glared at Birkoff and Walter who ignored her and quickly knelt beside the bed, clasping Nikita’s hands in their own.

“Sugar we’re here, Doctor Wallace is right here.”

Nikita nodded weakly, exhausted from the last 48 hours of pain she had endured alone, she wrapped her fingers around Walter’s and cracked her lids open.

“If something happens, save the baby Walter.” She whispered softly before going limp.

Wallace stepped forward and gently pried her knees apart, he gently prodded her abdomen and peritoneal area before lifting his gaze to met Walter’s.

“She’s fine, she’s almost fully dilated, there is no way to stop the birth now. We better take her to the O.R.”

Walter nodded and tenderly wrapped his arms around Nikita, lifting her, he slowly followed Wallace out the door and into the elevators.

“Is Nikita going to die?” A childish voice asked.

Walter turned and smiled at Adam. Nadine quickly reached out and hugged Adam tightly. Lifting him into her arms she gently brushed his hair back off his face.

“No baby, she’s only having your sister. She will be just fine.”

Adam nodded and buried his face against Nadine’s neck, tears falling down his cheeks to soak her pale shirt.

Walter entered the elevator, he tightened his hold on Nikita as she wraped her arms around her abdomen.

Adam reached out and gently caressed her cheek. “It’s ok Nikita, daddy will be proud of you, he’s always proud when I don’t cry when I get hurt.”

Nikita’s gaze shifted toward Adam and she gave him a tender smile.

“I know Love, I know.” She said as she clasped his hand.
