Walter stood at the closed O.R. door, watching through the tiny window as the doctors and nurses rushed back and forth, suddenly Nikita screamed. Walter cringed, closing his eyes he said a silent prayer for Nikita. As he opened his eyes he watched as a nurse introduced a needle filled with some clear liquid into Nikita’s IV, he watched as Nikita tossed her head side to side several times before
she turned and stared right at him, her lids fluttering close as she lost consciousness. Shivering slightly he watched as a nurse rushed toward the door.
Turning he watched with tear filled eyes those assembled in the waiting room.
Quinn and Birkoff sat side by side, their hands clasped tightly in prayer. Adam paced the room, his hands clasped behind his back the same way Michael would do when he was worried. The older man sighed, shrugged and turned back to
watch the nurse close the window. Walter’s hand hit the window hard, his fingers slowly closing.
“Please god don’t let them die.” He whispered once again.
Feeling a soft touch he spun around to find Adam standing several steps away, his tiny hands clasped before him in the same way Michael would pose when dealing with Operations or Madeline.
“What’s wrong Little buddy?” He asked as he kneeled before the child.
Adam lowered his gaze to the floor. “Is Mam-Nikita going to die?”
Walter’s eyes widened as Adam’s question. Taking the child into his arms he stood and walked to the end of the room, where he took a seat on the chair. He smiled at Adam’s struggles to get out of his hold.
Adam sighed and stopped struggling. Looking up through tear filled dark eyes he whispered softly against Walter’s shoulder. “Let me go, I’m not a child anymore.”
Walter winced at the reminder that this boy had been forced to grow up quite fast. Losing his father and mother within a year of each other had made Adam mature extremely fast for his young age. If that was not enough he had been kidnaped and held as hostage to force Michael to obey, that had turned out bad after Nikita’s long lost father had suddenly surfaced and sacrificed himself for Adam’s and
Michael’s survival.
Walter smiled tenderly and slackened his hold on the boy. “You’re right little buddy.” He whispered softly as Adam slipped out of his lap.
He locked his pale gaze with Adam’s dark one and sighed. “No Adam, Nikita is not going to die.” He stated as he watched Adam wrap his arms around his waist. “You know Adam, you can call Nikita mommy if you want. Your Mother would not be angry.”
Adam stared deeply into Walter’s pale gaze. His hands clasped before him in a perfect imitation of his father. His dark gaze roaming the room as he tried to control his emotions.
“I know....”He whispered softly. “But it’s hard, Daddy loved them both so much....” Adam looked down at the floor and sighed. “I guess he loved Nikita more, since he abandoned Mommy and me.” Hearing Walter gasp he looked up
and met the older man’s pale blue eyes. “Everyone thought I was too young to understand. To know. But I saw, and listened, even Mommy knew he loved Nikita.” Smiling Adam shrugged. “But Mommy said that Daddy would come back some day. And she was right........I just wish she had not died.”
Walter reached out and touched Adam’s shoulder softly.
“You know Kid, your dad loves you too much, he sacrificed himself to keep you safe.”
Adam nodded solemnly. “I know, and he suffered so much that he almost died. I heard him and Nikita fighting late one night, she was reminding him that if she had not done what she did he would have swallowed a bullet.” Adam glared into Walter’s eyes. “What does that mean?”
Walter took a deep breath. His mind wondering if the child was old enough to understand. Deciding that Adam was old enough, he clasped the child by the shoulders. “It means that he would have killed himself. He was too sad.”
Adam nodded slowly, his gaze shifting to look at the O.R. door. “He should be here.” Was all the child said before he turned and ran out the door.
Walter stood and was about to follow Adam when the door to the O.R. opened and Frank Wallace stepped out, a squirming bundle in his arms. “It’s a girl,”
Walter’s legs began to shake softly as the doctor approached.
noticing the stillness inside the room he smiled. “She’s nine pounds, four ounces and has the lungs of Michael Jackson!” He stated as he reached Walter and gave
the old man the baby. Stepping back he allowed all the assembled to get closer.
Walter nervously wrapped his shaking arms around the newborn, he had not held a baby since Birkoff and Jason had been born.
Birkoff and Quinn stepped closer to look at the baby. “She’s so small, and red is that normal?” Birkoff asked grimacing as the baby let out another loud screech.
Quinn chuckled softly. “She’s perfect Birkoff, looks just like her parents.” she stated as she began to walk toward the door. “Now let’s go and see if we can get her father back before Walter teaches her how to shoot an Uzi.”
Walter winced and glared at Quinn tightening his hold on the squirming child.
Birkoff choked at Walter’s reaction to those words. “Yeah we better find Michael soon, or Nikita will be the one placing an Uzi in her hands.” he thought as he reached out and gently touched her waving fist.
Quinn stepped back and chuckled softly. “If I know Nikita, this baby will not see the dark side of this place ever.” She stated as she reached out and dragged Birkoff behind her.
Birkoff nodded slowly as his gaze stayed riveted on the child. “Call us when we can see Nikita.” He stated softly as the doors closed behind them.
Walter nodded as he stared deeply into the baby’s eyes. “You do look like your parents. Dark hair and pale eyes. They were so right to name you Hope.”
Wallace stepped closer, taking the baby from Walter he nodded toward the nurse, who came forward and took the baby back into the room.
“Nikita will be asleep for a few more hours, we had to put her under general anesthesia to do a Cesarean.” noticing Walter’s paleness and the widening of his pale eyes he smiled. “But she will be fine.”
Walter clasped Wallace’s hand and shook it briefly. “Thank you doctor, when can I see Nikita?”
Wallace smiled. “Just give us twenty minutes to clean her up and take her to her room.”
Walter nodded and turned, exiting the waiting room on his way to tell the acting Operations about the new addition to section one.

Shantal stepped out of the shower and dried herself, her hands still shook as she tried to hide the emotions that had run rampant inside her for the last forty-five
minutes. She jumped as the door slammed open and Gadari stood there, his arms crossed over his chest.
“What’s wrong?”
Gadari shook his head. “We’ve got trouble.”
Shantal sighed and turned back to the mirror, the towel dropping to the floor. Taking the large comb she slowly combed the tangles out of her dripping hair.
“What kind of trouble?”
Gadari glared at her. Taking a deep breath he slowly lowered his gaze to the floor.
“Rumors, Jamil decided to leave Rahine at the summer palace and come to visit you.”
Shantal gasped and spun around, her hair slowly cascading brazenly around her shoulders. Noticing the stiffness of Gadari’s stance she quickly grabbed the silk robe and covered herself.
“How reliable are these rumors? “ she asked.
Gadari looked up as a soft cry arose from the bedroom. Turning Gadari winced as Michael twisted softly in his sleep.
“He’s having a nightmare, you better go to him.”
Shantal’s gaze shifted toward Michael. Reaching out she grabbed Gadari’s wrist. “Don’t change the subject! What about Jamil?”
Gadari shrugged. “It’s just rumors.” He mumbled softly. Hearing another soft moan emanate from Michael he jerked his wrist away from her grasp and stepped back. “You better go to him.” He stated.
Smiling Shantal glared into his dark eyes and slowly nodded, tightening the belt around her waist. She pulled her hair back and began to braid it tightly.
“He’s going through the first stages of withdrawal.” Stepping closer she gently laid her hand on Gadari’s arm. “Find out if these rumors are true. We can’t
jeopardize our escape.”
Gadari nodded solemnly and stepped out of the bathroom allowing Shantal to go to Michael.
As she stepped by him he grabbed her arm. “By the way, Omar searched the passage, it leads to several chambers inside the palace.”
Shantal sighed and nodded. “Is there a way out through there?”
Gadari looked away from her and met Omar’s gaze. “Maybe, but not with Michael in that condition. It’s too dangerous.”
Shantal nodded and pulled her arm away from his grasp. “Well we must leave soon, specially if Jamil is coming. He won’t regain his strength for several more
weeks.” She stated as she walked toward Michael. Watching as he shook his head and fisted his hands tightly against his chest.
