Walter sat in munitions, his hands shaking softly as he watched the last of the team members leave. Even when he knew that this mission was extremely important he could not concentrate, he expected to see Michael walk by toward Nikita’s room at any moment.

“My heart can’t take many more losses.” Closing the gate he slowly walked to the back and slowly closed the back door. He stood beside the door, his breathing quick and raspy as he pulled the flask of whiskey out of it’s secret hiding place, opening the flask he lifted his hand and toasted the air. “To you Michael, may you live and return soon my son.” Walter sighed and closing his eyes he threw his head back and quickly imbibed a large drink. Wiping his mouth with the back of his hand he shivered as the hard liquor burned it’s way down his throat. “God please bring him back alive, we need him, specially my sugar.” He shook his head at the silent prayer and quickly took another drink.

Inside his room Birkoff quickly tapped on the keyboard, his mind cloudy and his vision blurred by the lack of sleep.

“I have to find you Michael, no matter what happens to me I must get you back. Nikita will not survive for long without you.” He whispered as his fingers flew across the keyboard, searching everywhere he could think of. A soft knock upon his door made Birkoff jump.

“Who is it?” He asked as he slowly pulled the gun from under the desk, where he kept one of his backups ever since the last few incidents.

“Cassie.” Floated toward him in a softly uttered whisper.

Birkoff sighed and returned the gun to it’s hiding place. He turned and pushed a series of keys to continue on automatic search, then slowly stood and walked to the door.

“What are you doing here?” He asked the young pale skinned, curly black haired girl standing outside his door.

Cassie had arrived in section almost one year before, she was a casualty of a mission gone wrong, actually it was the last mission Operations had sent out before being disposed of by Michael. Birkoff shivered inward as the memories of that morning assailed him. He shook his head trying in vain to forget the events of that morning. He felt her hand gently take his and smiled remembering that her sweet tenderness and gentle disposition had forced Michael and Nikita to place her under his tutelage until they decided what to do. That had not happened due to Birkoff. He had slowly made them realize that Cassie was an asset to section one and should be trained in Comm.

Cassie looked him up and down before slowly leaning over and kissing his cheek.

“What’s wrong? Earth to Seymour. “ She whispered against his lips.

Birkoff shivered softly and smiled. “Sorry Cass.” frowning once again he looked into her eyes. “What’s wrong?”

Cassie giggled softly and tightened her hold on his hand. “We agreed to meet tonight, remember Seymour?”

Birkoff shook his head slowly trying to remember, the last twenty-four hours had been extremely unnerving, he brushed his fingers through his rapidly growing hair and sighed. “Sorry Cass I forgot, with Michael missing and Nikita in medlab-“

Cassie nodded and placed her fingers on his lips, softly rubbing her thumb across his bottom lip.

“I know, you’ve been so involved in finding him. Any luck?”

Birkoff smiled and looked into her pale blue eyes, his nether region already reacting to her touch as he slipped his arm around her waist and dragged her into the room.

“So far nothing, but I’ve got the auto search going.” He said as he kicked the door closed.

Cassie smiled softly and lowered her gaze to the floor. A soft blush creeping into her cheeks. “So can you take a couple of hours off?”

Birkoff smirked slightly at her game and quickly embraced her, pressing her face against his chest, he felt her hands softly flutter down his chest to cup and fondle his rigid maleness. Shivering softly in anticipation he buried his nose in her fragrant curls and sighed. “Yeah, I can.” He whispered and proceeded to drag cassie to the bed.

Nikita laid curled up on the bed inside her private room, a young nurse sat beside her reading a book to her. Eyes closed, Nikita continued to rub her extended abdomen and praying for Michael’s safe return. “Please Love, be alive, come back to me. We need you so very much my love!” She thought as their child softly pressed her elbow against her hand making Nikita chuckle.

The nurse lifted her gaze and stared tenderly at Nikita. Jeanne had been transferred to section one from section eight. Her trainer had always spoken about his own trainers and how in love they were. She had never believed that particular love story until Darwin had sent her to be in charge of Nikita’s care during her pregnancy. Jeanne smiled as Nikita rubbed her hands over her child. “She’s quite active isn’t she?”

Nikita opened her eyes and smiled. “Yes, she’s always active when I think about her father, do you think that means he’s alive?”

Jeanne sighed. Putting her book down she gently took Nikita’s hand and smiled.

“Michael and you have always had a special bond, that bond could very well transfer to your child also. Believe that Michael is alive, keep him always alive inside your heart. That is all we can do for now you know.”

Nikita sniffed and quickly wiped a stray tear that slowly was making it’s way down her cheek. “Yeah, you’re right, we do have a special bond, and I do believe that she can feel his presence, wherever he is I think he is still alive. I just wish we knew for sure.”

Jeanne smiled tenderly and squeezed Nikita’s hand. “Just believe, trust in what you feel inside your heart.”

Nikita pulled her hand away from Jeanne and sighed. “I do believe, it’s just so unfair! We just barely got together, it’s unfair that I have to live one more minute without him. Why is this happening to us? are we cursed?” She turned away from Jeanne and softly pulled the blanket over her head, her shoulders heaving as the sobs quietly took over Nikita.

Jeanne sighed and slowly stood, she quickly left the room and allowed Nikita her privacy. Taking a seat inside the observation room she opened the book she had been reading and continued to read, a softly uttered prayer slipping from her lips as she tried to concentrate on the words before her.

“Just let him live and come back, she can’t take much more pain.”

Jeanne looked up as doctor Wallace walked into the room.

“How is she Jeanne?” He asked, standing before the observation window and watching as Nikita’s body convulsed in silent sobs.

“She’s tired, in pain and missing him so very much. Can’t you give her something to calm her? Her nerves are completely shot.”

Frank sighed and lifted his hand to trace Nikita’s shape against the glass. “The baby is barely surviving, if I medicate her the child could suffer, and we both know
what Operations and Michael will do if the child dies. We must do everything possible to keep Nikita calm and the child inside her until it is safe to deliver her.”

Jeanne sighed and nodded, knowing that doctor Wallace was right.

Frank turned and slowly took a seat beside Jeanne, taking her hand he smiled at her. “How about taking a break? Come have a cup of coffee with me, I’ll get Josh to sit with Nikita.”

Jeanne smiled shyly at Frank and nodded. Frank took his cell phone and quickly called Josh to come and take the next shift. Once Josh arrived Frank took Jeanne by the hand and quickly dragged her toward the elevators, his mind swirling with plans to slowly win her heart.
