I agree. There was a truly memorable performance in the Stalls at last night's Prom. Elgar almost got a look in.

First prize goes to the woman round about row K in the 100's with the loudest cough in the auditorium - no apologetic, hand-over-the mouth, stifled coughing here - but a full-on barking in any passage marked at less than fortissimo.

A special percussion prize goes to the guy sitting next to me who made a point of principle of flicking loudly through all the pages of his programme during any soft passage. I didn't think it was possible to make that much noise with paper. Boy, he must have found some interesting things in that programme for the amount of energy he put into it.

My suggested solution? Have the ushers identify them in the interval (with the help of other audience members), muzzle the bastards and strap them into special seats so they can't move any part of their anatomy.

I feel better now.
