I think you will find that the majority of us "snobs" in the south enjoyed the Hallé prom too and were particularly impressed with what Elder has achieved in a short time. Given the nature of the programme (excerpts) and the lacklustre performance by the Hallé under Nagano two years ago, it is perhaps understandable that some prommers may have decided to miss this one. To suggest though, that this has anything to do with a North / South divide is rather foolish. I (and I'm not alone) have always welcomed regional orchestras to the proms and it is only the logistics of travelling to Birmingham / Manchester etc., that stops me hearing them on a more regular basis. Indeed the likes of BBCSSO (Vänskä) and BBCPhil (Järvi)produced some of last year's best proms.

I have also enjoyed much of the "overhyped nonsense" from the BBCSO and LSO this year and, as my shoulders have no chips on them and I don't believe everything the media says, I eagerly await the "far better" performances referred to.

To the O.P., there is really no point in complaining about lack of reviews if you are unwilling to post one yourself. I doubt your views will be any more biased than certain sections of the media and I think readers would generally be interested in comments from a seasoned Hallé concert goer describing how Elder has changed things around. Not every concert gets reviewed in these pages as most reviews and discussions occur in the Imperial College bar after the concert!
