If compelled to make a guess, I would guess Hipa. Not based on any conversations. He seemed to be number 2 last year, although very limited playing time behind the veteran Stenstrom. Hilliard, during media day, spoke of him as if he would be the starter. Of course, pre-season practice has intervened and i don’t know who will actually start at QB.

The two biggest unknowns for P, IMO, are how well do the transitions at QB and OC go. Surace and staff have done very well in recruiting and getting our QBs ready but past performance doesn't guarantee future results.

Notwithstanding some significant graduation losses Surace did say on media day this was largely a veteran team. I think the strength of the offense going into the opener is at WR and what I think will be the TE 2 Deep. Carr’s absence reduces us to 2 experienced RBs. If Volker is healthy all season that will be big plus. I am hopeful a third RB also emerges.

We have some good returning LBs but graduation took a toll there. I think the strength of the defense is the DB group.

I don’t know too much about the other Ivy teams but hope springs eternal for a strong run.

I agree on D that the secondary is talented and deep and Princeton will need to reload at LB to replace last year’s superlative seniors but with Scarano and Sanker they have a solid core to build on. I believe the senior DLs DelGarbino, Ives and Taylor will also be a major strength in the trenches.

On O, the starting OL returns several veterans but there is not much experience behind them. Same for the RBs, leaving a big opportunity for Ethan Clark and the incoming first years to step up. Blaine Hipa, or whoever ends up starting, will be the X factor this season. We have seen several QBs over the years emerge from the depth chart (Stenstrom, Davidson, Smith) and perform at a very high level. For Princeton to make some noise this year that will have to happen again.

Agreed on all points. I would add Kanoff and Lovett who emerged as effective first year QB starters. A tribute to the staff and players. Hoping that trend continues.

If Hipa is QB1 on Saturday I believe he will be the first starting Tiger lefty QB since POY Jeff Terrell led Princeton to an Ivy title in 2006.

Am I forgetting someone?

I tried to fact-check that using ChatGPT and it provided the following misinformation:

“There have been a few notable left-handed quarterbacks who played football at Princeton University, though they are rare. One of the most famous examples is Jason Garrett, who played quarterback at Princeton in the late 1980s. Garrett, a left-handed passer, went on to play in the NFL and later became a coach, most notably as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. Garrett transferred to Princeton from Columbia University and played two seasons for the Tigers.“

For a lefty, Garrett threw awfully well with his right arm.

Can only wonder how well he would have done if he threw with his left arm.... Might even have beaten out Aikman on the Cowboys!

The website has a discussion of the offense. The guy I thought was in the TE 2 deep is listed as a WR. If that is his position it makes the WR group even stronger but reduces experienced depth at TE. The center and guard positions have experienced starters returning; likely OT starters not so experienced.
