No, the news wasn't that Brown lost to Bryant. In this day of the open portal, this will be the norm. Bryant had 60 new players on their team from the portal. Let me repeat, 60. There certainly was plenty of talent for the picking. At any rate, Brown's defense was bad. The corner covering the star Bryant receiver was as good as useless. And Bryant continually took advantage of the mismatch. But that would not have been possible if Brown had mounted a serious rush. They didn't, and the Bryant QB had plenty of time to find open receivers. Hopefully, Isaiah Read gets back on the field soon. As for the open portal, it has taken the "college" out of college sports. Sad, real sad.
But the Really Big News was that the Brown women's soccer team got trounced by Princeton 8-0. This was hard to believe because Brown had not lost a league game in over four years. But those teams had Brittany Raphino, and you just knew that life was not going to be the same without her. But what was really sad was that Brown gave up once they got behind 2-0. Losing is no fun, but quitting is unforgiveable.
One final note, Matt Childs, Brown's freshman back, is going to be a big star in the league. He plays like a senior, is fast and shifty. If he doesn't get hurt, the sky is the limit. Remember, you heard it here first.
