BL, as I did before, I will address your points in order of INCREASING importance.

(2) Thanks for a tip of the hat re: "whom." I have a bad feeling that, with young people today mostly communicating by informal text or AI-assisted email, verbal dialogue will soon deviate from traditional grammar until it's like a heavy geographic accent. It's still English, but not exactly. Just like my kid now treats cursive handwriting like a foreign language that she speaks, but not well.

If you're not tall, successful or handsome, then this is going to be a fair fight. Like a couple of aging boxers stepping back into the ring against Jake Paul.

(4) You're in Boston, where I used to live and still visit often. I love it every time that I'm back. You are fortunate. I am geographically closer to Levien, it's true, but I visit only once or twice a year as a visiting fan, whereas I presume you can turn on a full court press for Megan on a more regular basis. That's still a nod for you.

It's really remarkable what Courtney, Megan, Carla and Carrie have done to Ivy League women's basketball. It wasn't that long ago it was still just the parents of players in the audience. What a turnaround in terms of excitement and the quality of play on the court. You really have to give credit to Courtney for starting the arms race. I get the feeling Carrie is going to get the same support that Amaker got at the admissions office early in his tenure. Watch Harvard carefully.

(3) I don't know if you worked in development, but let's say a father wanted to get the attention of the development office at approximately the time that his child was applying for admission. What kind of numbers are we talking about these days? Asking for a friend.

(1) Girlfriends/women are what make this journey around the sun spicy and interesting, thrilling and frustrating. They always rate the (1).

AO,
I don't know what happened to the original thread or how this one posting of your has reappeared. I was going to respond to the questions in your last posting (later than the one above), but then the thread disappeared.

BL,

I don't know what happened. But it appears that, like Lazarus, this thread has arisen from the dead.

Megan Griffith. Columbia women's basketball. This thread. It's a miracle.

AO,
I think one of your questions to me was about the meaning of the reference to “EDGE” in one of my earlier postings. This is the answer.

Megan Griffith: “The best way to sum it up is not skipping steps in having a vision and bringing the right people with me, the right staff,” she says. “Every success in my life was because I was able to find an edge, and here we have the Columbia EDGE, which stands for Energy, Discipline, Grit and Excellence. It’s everywhere in our program: We wear it on our shirts, it’s on the walls in our locker room. It’s our why — why are we doing this?”

Thank you for the explanation. Thank you very much. I'm a big fan of studying and learning how excellent coaches build a program culture. I think successful coaches usually explicitly and overtly try to build a culture that they proactively define in their own heads -- a vision, if you will, as Megan says.

Meanwhile, most corporate leaders sort of let the company culture develop as a side effect or fringe benefit while plans are drawn, factories are built and products are sold. It just falls out during the ordinary course of business.

It might sound dumb, but I'm even trying to pay more attention to the culture am I building in my own family. We're a team, right? And whether it's explicitly built or simply arises on its own, most teams have a culture or a personality. We might as well try to shape it.

Mid-major #3 Columbia women at Mid-major #2 (two first place votes) Harvard on Friday night.

I presume that Columbia, Harvard and Princeton will finish 30-0 against the other five members of the conference. So far, the H-P and C-P games have been high drama. This 3x3 round robin is must-see viewing.

Prior to the arrival of Courtney Banghart at Jadwin Gym, what odds would you have assigned to the paragraph above ever being typed by an Ivy League sports fan? Once again, it's a miracle.
