it seems we mostly outdrew St J attendance in our gym. However I think we just don't have the chemistry of previous seasons - or the killer spirit -eg, to lose to Harv by six points in two games? Our last game of regular season - our gym was PACKED to the rafters and we lost. While I hesitate to criticize our team and god knows MG has made our team very competitive - that is the most Columbia thing ever - So I imagine that tickets will be available - why not? Its not the draw of the NCAA tournie even if it is in our gym.

Rooter, you might be right. But maybe not.

I would love to see Levien full for the St. John's game. It would be a reward to the team, an expression of gratitude for both a good season and, more broadly, what Megan has built in Morningside Heights.

But more than that, it would be a party.

Even in the NCAA tournament, the vast majority of competing teams know that they are not going to make it out of the first weekend, let alone win the damn thing. But everybody is there just to celebrate.

Columbia women's basketball has drawn the campus together like few programs in the history of Lion athletics have done. For all the complaining about the football and other teams needing to commute uptown to Baker Field, I think that the on-campus location of the basketball arena has been a real positive for the team's impact on the campus culture.

And in the case of the WBIT, a deep run actually is possible. I hope that all supporters of the team will enjoy the party in person. Salud!

Columbia probably set a couple of Ivy records against St John’s.

Columbia is on a mission. They are destroying NDSU on the road!!! The Lions are the real deal and it seems as if they feel it is time for payback for not getting an Autobid. I kinda think this is working out for the best since they will go deep in this tourney. GO LIONS!

Unquestionably, the Ivy League tournament prepped the Lions and Crimson well. They are playing the best basketball they've played all season!!!

Neither the Penn men nor especially the Princeton women have anything to apologize for, but it is very nice that the last impression the Ivy League leaves in the 2026 season is a nice run in a tournament -- any tournament.

Putting a beat down onto somebody in a Round of 16 is no small feat. This is not a 1 versus 16 first round game in the NCAA bracket.

Harvard will host Wisconsin in the next round and Columbia will travel to the Cal-Kansas State winner.

Dare I hope for it? Columbia-Harvard IV?

I won't allow myself to daydream until both the Lions and Crimson win.

Even though Wisconsin has a losing record, they were the better seed. Both Harvard and Columbia are the visitors for the next round.

Which is better - getting bounced in the first round of the NCAA or making a deep run in the WBIT? I am going with playing for a possible WBIT championship. I was never a varsity athlete but I suspect they all love playing as long as possible and extending their season. This gives them more experience and time to build for the next season.

This is a reasonable question. The answer is that neither is better, they’re just different. Not one player or coach would choose another tournament over the NCAA opportunity. That’s the holy grail.

But are the Columbia and Harvard women having the time of their lives? Yes! Absolutely.

Are the Lion and Crimson fans having tremendous fun? Yes. Of course. Winning is fun and the teams are still winning. The girls are not just winning, they’re playing great basketball.

I’ll bet that today’s news about Carla Berube leaving for Northwestern puts some additional pep into the step at Columbia and Harvard. The 2027 Ivy League season is going to be wide open and the 2026 WBIT is the first ingredient to the 2027 season.

It's women's basketball, they stopped playing girls basketball in high school.

In our friend's defense, there are high school programs that call their teams the "men's" and "women's" teams.

https://www.gds.org/athletics/teams-and-schedules

I don't approve of that either...

I don't have a problem with using the term "women," but you should keep in mind that language police such as yourself are a primary reason we have the current occupant of the WH. This is probably the top reason people hate Ivy Leaguers.

Walk around Knoxville, Austin, et al and ask what the women's basketball team is called.

Would it be more PC to say The Harvard women choked in the last two minutes of regulation against Wisconsin or the Harvard girls choked?

PC or not, they are between 18-22 yes old, the university athletic website calls them the women's team. Would you call the men's team boys?

Most 18-22 year-old females i know would rather be called girls.

Regardless, it was an epic collapse by the Harvard GBB team.

While I agree that "women" is the proper nomenclature for college sports teams, I also agree that explicitly pointing such out can do more harm than good...

So you're both right!!

I believe that, just as college males are formally called men, college females should formally be called women.

But men of all ages are often called boys. It's typically a sign of informality or affection. When I go away with my friends, nobody blinks that we call it a boys' weekend.

Similarly, it usually -- but not always -- reflects informality or affection to refer to young women as girls. Now, it is absolutely true that sometimes the term is used to imply disrespect or disdain, but not often. When in the context of sports, it's almost always the former: informality or affection.

Those that seek to take offense easily may think that they are striking a blow for women's rights or equality in general. Maybe, but the cost is as suggested earlier in this thread. You're just pissing off a lot of people.

And when people are pissed off enough, they eventually vote for somebody who is going to put an end to political correctness. And so they have.

So now I ask those well intentioned guardians of the terms "girls" and "women," don't you see what you've done to this country? As GG said, you're doing more harm than good.
