Anna's eyes were focussed intently on the novel she was just beginning to read. Her face held that look of absolute concentration. She didn’t even glance up as strangers brushed by her. That’s why she didn’t even notice the male until he had been settled into nearby chair for quite a few minutes. It was only after she finished the first three pages that her eyes lifted slowly upwards at the café bustling with people entering and exiting, that her eyes eventually moved to the figure occupying a nearby seat. She really hadn’t had a good start in this town. Things weren’t exactly working out as well as she had hoped. She had even considered moving back in with her mother, but then had quickly erased that thought from her mind as soon as her senses returned to her. By now he had taken papers from his bag and was reading over them. Anna’s curiosity got the better of her- besides she figured she’d give this town one more chance to get on her good side- which was more than she gave most people. “What are you working on?” Anna slid her finger into her book to mark her page. Her voice was fairly direct- not shy or meek in any way- but polite.

  • He had gotten distracted by the time she spoke up, and was instead staring off into the distance daydreaming about nothing in particular, rather than reading and revising as he was supposed to be. True to his typically social nature, he smiled easily as his gaze shifted to the unfamiliar face who had spoken, and then his nose wrinkled a little in a sort of grimace. "Work. Boring, monotonous work. What are you reading?" With language being his trade, he also happened to be a bit of a bookworm himself - though he didn't have much time anymore these days to read for pleasure. He shifted a little in his chair so that he was facing her more, set down his pen, and then dropped an elbow to rest on the table, papers still in hand.
