I will not let myself
Cause my heart so much misery.
I will not break the way you did,
You fell so hard.
I've learned the hard way
To never let it get that far.
Anna was back again, despite her previous visit to this place, where she had made a complete fool of herself. It was strange the way things worked. But it didn’t matter, because in all honesty she didn’t expect that she would be running into Angelo anytime soon... or at least in a way she was kind of hoping she wouldn’t be. Of course, it did occur to her that he may be a regular at Café Brio, but that was a chance she was willing to take for a nice warm cappuccino on a cool, wet day.
It was raining out, it had been raining all day. It was one of those days you wanted to stay in your room all day and hide under the covers- which Anna would have been quite happy to do except since the fire she was currently sharing a dorm room Jessica. Jessica was nice- obviously since she had offered to share her room with someone that had lost their housing in the fire- but the girl's downfall was the fact that she was madly in love with Derek. Personally, the girl was driving Anna nuts, she practically had her room decorated in his pictures, and she talked about him constantly. Anna hadn’t even met the boy but she already knew his life story. Derek was caption of the football team, Derek was at Harvard on a scholarship, Derek calls her every night, Derek is perfect- and while Anna listened to all of this politely she couldn’t help but think that Derek was one of those cocky, egotistical guys who got drunk almost daily, got through life way too easily, and cheated on almost every girl he was with and got away with it.
So in short, Anna was giving up spending a day in her pajamas so she wouldn’t have to hear another word about Derek. Now, she curled up on one side of a plush couch- the same one she had been seated on only a few days before, and sipped her cappuccino that she had ordered upon entering. She opened the cover of a thick novel and fliped to it's first page- it was one she had borrowed from the library since all of her novels were now burnt to a crisp- courtesy of someone leaving a candle burning in their apartment. Her first week in this new town really wasn't turning out the best... maybe it was a sign.
I heard you cry every night in your sleep.
I was so young,
You should have known better
Than to lean on me.
You never thought of anyone else
You just saw your pain.
