Subject: City Judge

The mayor has announced that he has appointed Anika Mohammed to fill the City Court Judgeship vacancy caused by the retirement of Peter Kulkin. I missed the announcement of Judge Kulkin’s retirement. When did he leave office? Judge Mohammed barely reached the experience requirement to serve as City Judge. She must be a city resident to serve as judge. Is she? If so, when did she become a resident? A quick Google search shows that she is a resident of Highland Mills. This may have changed of course.

Since Judge Kulkin served as an elected City Judge, his appointed successor may only serve until the next January 1st. An election must be held this November to fill the remainder of his term. When does Judge Kulkin’s term expire?

Judge Mohammed may turn out to be an excellent City Court Judge. Her appointment though, and the lack of full information given to the public is strange to say the least.
