Subject: Police Commissioner

To my understanding, the council voted on a charter change, to re-institute a Police Commissioner as the head of the PD. I haven't heard why this is better than the current leadership system that is in place. What is the benefit? Our council hopefully has done the due diligence, to see if this will be a success or a train wreck. From the little publications I have seen, it's about change, but no information on what direction or general scope of what is needed by way of leadership in the PD. What's the difference in a Commissioner and a Chief? I hope they can explain this better. I see how the council makes decisions without the full support of the community. This method or way of doing the people's business in this city is horrible. Politicians making department decisions without full understanding of ramifications that can result in part due to the lack of the understanding of policing or whatever department they make changes to. They did away with this Commissioner position for a reason, and for the current council not to give any background on this is insane. If anyone has information on this new charter change, please do tell.
