Subject: City Hall Legal Expense spending

As a former city employee, I would like to ask the question of how much does the legal department spend on workman's comp, and employee or HR cases. A case in the matter of a former employee, Schulze v. City of Newburgh, a case that spanned almost 13 years, the city basically said they were entitled to a hurt employees workman's compensation settlement. Basically the city spent bookoo bucks, seeking outrageous legal means to keep this hurt employee from his entitled money. Contracting out a law firm to do it's bidding at an exorbitant cost. Thirteen years on one person! And this was decided in the State Supreme court. The city still uses an outside firm, to seek and punish those who once put their lives on the line for its residents, to now be sought after legally, and be put in a very overwhelming legal battle(s). These actions are shielded by executive session as to not violate employee rights, but the contrary is happening, they are extremely violating the employees, by adding unnecessary legal hurdles, as to deter said employees from statutorily protected provisions. On the whole, with the city manager search, and possibility of a for hire executive firm like ICMA, costs are very high. And the public is unaware of these costs due to clever bookkeeping by our illustrious City Manager. We're being duped, show an itemized list of expenses associated with workman's comp, and HR related legal expenses, instead of a generic legal department line item number. Funny how the city paints labor unions as greedy during collective bargaining, but spend a kings ransom on neutering hardworking injured personnel. I can speak because I'm long gone, but the fuckery still goes on. A forensic audit, should be done after Venning leaves, to see where the money actually goes.
