Subject: April 9, 2026 City Council Workshop

Finally finished watching the video of the four hour meeting. A lot to digest there. I wonder how the national search for a City Manager will go while at the same time the Council is forming a Charter review Commission that may end up in eliminating the City Manager position?
One thing that gave me a laugh is that Councilman Shakur mentioned more than once that he has no intention of attending a City Council Retreat. He said that no matter when it gets scheduled it conflicts with his schedule. No sense of his wasting his time. The discussions will be way over his head.

For weeks now increasing numbers of residents have come before the Council advocating for the creation of a Charter Review Commission. They will now get their wish. Most, if not all of them, are in favor of abolishing the City Manager form of government in favor of a strong mayor. They simply don’t understand Newburgh politics, and in their naievete, probably think that one of them could be elected as mayor. Instead, Councilman Shakur would likely be elected, and he would be well prepared - NOT!
