Still, I have seen no reasoning of why we have a Police Commissioner, nor have the council given any answers as to how a added fire commissioner will aid the city's public safety department. With rising inflation costs, as the CM alluded to, why in the name of God would you add another administrative position, when you have a Chief in place? Make it make sense to me. In this age of administrative oversight, management new thought is to have a non bargaining heading the department run day to day, which we have in having Chiefs of both fire and police. This is a model of management that does not suit a small city such as Newburgh. To be honest, it's a power grab to put easily controlled Managers in place that will make unintelligent decisions on public safety, for the benefit of city manager to further control all departments. God help the first responders and other city personnel.
