Subject: Kearney Development

Reading the times herald record article, in regards to the Kearney Development Project, shows the Mayor and his grandiose plan of development in Newburgh by having world class hotel and dining to help bring Newburgh out of abject poverty is lunacy. Mr. Allen spoke of his ancestors losing property during urban renewal, and his fight for what seemingly sounds like reparations for a federal mandate, that razed countless buildings, paving the way for said abject poverty. It is too little, too late. Mayor and council, have sold Newburgh to high end developers, who are set to pad their pockets off the natural architecture of Newburgh, and it's beautiful waterfront by offering silly perks like one retail space for "one" minority business owner. Also in the deal was a form of subsidized housing. How does this help the most impoverished residents, or those who truly were effected by urban renewal? Sounds like another development plan that benefits everyone except those who were sidelined by government led gentrification. If the citizens think a bed and breakfast high end hotel, and one mixed use commercial/residential development project is going to start a rennisance development wise, that will take Newburgh from it's poverty path is mistaken. You need programs for human development in order to see effective change. More parks for the youth, real community center(s) located throughout the city, to help develop, and maintain a sense of community. Window dressing with meaningless development is very short sighted, especially when community input was not even granted. Good ole Mayor Harvey blowing his trumpet 🎺 of accomplishment, selling this farce to the people as a solution to the woes of Newburgh. The identity Mr. Allen seeks, left with urban renewal, and all that is left are memories of days of old, to never be again. Why was councilman Shakur surprised as to what transpired, his comments seemed as if he was unaware of what this development project entailed! Shame on him for not knowing what a project would produce while under his term.
