Casey is attacked by her ghost
Casey tells her grand mother she never wants to see her again
Ryan tells Thalia not to contact him again
Tanya tells Jamie that everyone thinks she and Darren are an item
The taxi with Gladys (Casey’s Grandmother) crashes when the driver is revealed as her dead son.
FADE IN FROM BLACK.
ROADSIDE – DAWN
Two police cars are parked up at the side of the road. Two white vans are by them as many uniformed officers and men in white overalls buzz around the area.
OFFICER#1
These forensics have been here for eight hours – how long does it take to work out how old a body is?
Another officer – this time a female who immediately removes her white overalls, approaches.
FEMALE OFFICER
I.D Female, early sixties, caucasian – been dead two, maybe three weeks.
OFFICER#1
How has nobody found her before this?
FEMALE OFFICER
Because until last night all we had was a foot. Now we have a head and a torso another ten yards from that
OFFICER#1
What can do something like that?
FEMALE OFFICER
Combine Harvester is the guess. She was definitely long dead before hand
OFFICER#1
I need to get a different job
FEMALE OFFICER
(walking off)
We go to press at noon.

Ryan and Darren are walking through the mall in complete silence
DARREN

Well like Jack and Me go out drinking together and stuff but you –
RYAN

DARREN
Right, except for today but that’s different – we’re shopping for a birthday present but…
RYAN

DARREN
Sure we…haven’t
RYAN
It’s cool. Besides we’ve only known each other a few weeks – it’s no big. I’m more into my own company
DARREN
I just made an ass of myself didn’t I?
RYAN

INT – LIBRARY – MORNING
Casey is buried amidst a giant pile of books as Jack comes into the library very loudly singing what’s on his head phones.
LIBRARIAN

JACK

Casey laughs a little until Jack sees her. She stops and continues with her moody self
JACK
I saw, I saw you’ve been exposed missy
CASEY
Excuse me?
JACK
You can smile. I should’ve gotten evidence
CASEY

JACK

CASEY

JACK

Darren and Jamie walk in – pushing each other around
LIBRARIAN
Shh…
They stop and stare at her before carrying on towards the table
DARREN
What be doing it and how?
JACK

DARREN
How’s it going?
JACK
Pretty slow. So slow I haven’t even opened my book yet
DARREN
Did you bring it?
JACK
Well…erm, no.
CASEY
So you’re all using my book again I take it?
JACK
See – now this is a girl who’s in tune with the world
CASEY

JAMIE
Sooo… what did you and Ryan get me for my birthday?
DARREN

JAMIE
Funny. Did I mention that you’re not?
DARREN
You’re hard to shop for
JAMIE
That means expensive doesn’t it?
DARREN
No. It means you’re hard to shop for
CASEY
It’s polite for difficult and fussy
JAMIE
Yes and people calling you intelligent is polite for “at least she has something to back up her lack of looks”
JACK
Ding ding ladies! End of round one.
Casey and Jamie pass cold glances until Casey’s phone begins to ring
LIBRARIAN
Shh…
JACK
ARRRRRRRRRRGH!
Jack is extremely loud as he bangs his hands up and down on the table
JACK
Shh yourself woman!
Darren and Jamie raises their eyebrows at each other and turn their heads away as if to imply they aren’t with Jack
CASEY
I don’t…what do you mean?
JACK
What’s up?
Casey raises her hand in a ‘one sec’ manner
CASEY
When…w…I don’t understand what you’re…no…
Casey’s face drops as she releases her phone from he hands, Jack catches it and takes it to his ear – Casey pulls out from under the table and begins to move out of the library
JACK
Who is this?
(pause)
Oh…I understand. I’m sorry about the loss Mrs. Hope.
Jack hangs up the phone and stands still and quiet
DARREN
What is it?
JACK
Caseys’ Nan…erm, Gladys? She was found dead this morning
DARREN
I didn’t know she was sick
JACK
She wasn’t – they’re looking for the rest of her body now. She was complete mangled up.
The three of them drop their heads in silence
END OF PART ONE
INT – HAIRDRESSERS – DAY
Thalia is fixing a womans braids as they she (the woman) gossips
WOMAN
I swear it was so strange he had this bumpy face and I was so scared I just beat him with my bag like a tonne of times
THALIA

WOMAN

THALIA

WOMAN

THALIA

WOMAN

Thalia yanks on the braids
WOMAN

THALIA

She rolls her eyes and looks over to the window. Ryan is walking by, listening to his head phones. She stares at him – completely not paying attention
WOMAN

THALIA

CUT TO.
INT – POLICE STATION – DAY
Darren, Jamie and Jack are sat quietly at the front of the station
JAMIE
Why are we here?
JACK
For Casey
JAMIE
But why?
JACK
She’s our friend
JAMIE
She’s not mine.
JACK
Then go home Jay – be an insensitive brat somewhere else
JAMIE
(ouch!)

No, that was…I shouldn’t have said that
Darren looks over to the window and sees that Casey has come out of the office. He goes in to see her
DARREN
Hey
CASEY
What do you want?
DARREN
I wanted to see if you were okay
CASEY

DARREN

CASEY
Get lost Darren
DARREN
Look, I know you’re in pain but
CASEY
No you don’t. You don’t know what it’s like to be me.
DARREN

CASEY
Is this gonna be the huge “I can relate” story?
DARREN
You know what Casey? Forget it. You’re not worth it – you’re defensive, self pitying and sad, sad little girl who is not worth my time.
Darren storms out – slamming the door. Jack runs after him.
Jamie is stood in front of Casey – her arms folded.
CASEY
You turn now? Go ahead.
JAMIE
I have nothing to say
CASEY
Good.
JAMIE
Okay that was the biggest lie.
Jamie sits down next to Casey
JAMIE
You really don’t know a good thing when you’ve got it do you?
CASEY
Yeah, it’s all good isn’t it?
JAMIE
You really do feel sorry for yourself don’t you? You’re not the only one who’s lost things you know.
CASEY
I hardly think losing your virginity for the twelfth time is in the same league
JAMIE
I’m going to ignore that until we’re done then I’ll come back. You don’t realise how much Jack actually sees you as his friend, Darren too – god knows why because I can’t find a single thing to like about you.
CASEY

You know that he is suffering just as much as you inside – but rather than turning it into defensiveness – he uses is it to strive forward.

Darren is sat on a wall with Jack
JACK

Jack looks down to the floor with Darren – both sit in complete silence.

EXT – ROADSIDE – NIGHT
Ryan climbs out of his car and walks over past the police barrier. Thalia is stood there.
RYAN
What are you doing here?
THALIA
Same thing as you
RYAN
I got a call from Jamie
THALIA
Oh – I definitely didn’t. I watched the news
RYAN
I knew her
THALIA
I’m sorry
RYAN
She was an evil woman
THALIA
I’m not sorry?
RYAN
Did you kill her?
THALIA

RYAN
Then don’t be sorry
THALIA
Can we please end this now – this whole thing it’s just too…
(beat)

Ryan turns around to see a man watching them from the side of the road
MAN
Young Ryan – all grown up
RYAN
Do I know you?
The man slips out of the shadows and grins at them
RYAN
Glen.
THALIA

RYAN
Casey’s “dead for years” Dad
THALIA
Oh, I need to be less with you people
CUT TO.
EXT – STATION – NIGHT
Jack and Darren are still sat on the wall as Jamie walks over to them
JAMIE
Ryan just called me – something about extremely not dead – dead guy
CUT TO.
EXT – ROADSIDE – NIGHT
RYAN
So…how’ve you been?
GLEN
Real…well, real dead actually
RYAN
Right, that old thing
(beat)
What are you doing here?
GLEN
I knew this wouldn’t freak you out – not after all that stuff with your Dad
THALIA
What stuff with your Dad?
RYAN
(ignoring)
Again, I ask…
GLEN
Ask someone who knows – all I know is I’m back and pretty soon, I won’t be alone
THALIA
Are you evil?
RYAN
Thalia!
THALIA
It’s a fair question. Are you?
GLEN
I don’t know yet – I guess it depends on your opinion.
RYAN
Okay – now about that whole not being freaked out – no offence but I pretty much am.
Glens face begins to show up in thick veins, his eyes pale out and his skin gets a green tone – he looks the same as when his body was found.
GLEN
You should be
He laughs wickedly as lightning flashes through the air and he raises his hand – tossing both Ryan and Thalia into the air. They crash to the floor as he continues to laugh.
THALIA
Did he by any change have an unpredictable personality?
RYAN
At the best of times
THALIA
Time to leave?
RYAN
Wouldn’t say no…
The two of them scramble to their feet and run to the car. Thalia strays a lightning bolt towards Glen but it goes right through him – he catches it in his hand and turns it into a fireball – tossing it back at them as they run.
THALIA
Get in!
They reach Thalia’s car and jump straight in – she starts the car and speeds out, balls of fire still being hurled at them.
THALIA
Why did her turn?
RYAN
I don’t think he did – I think he…well, in life he was a drama teacher.
CUT TO.
INT – CAR – NIGHT
JACK
Jesus!
DARREN
I told you I couldn’t drive!
JACK
You can drive – like a bloody head case!
DARREN
You’re the one I suggested I do it
JACK
Your Mum is going to kill you
DARREN
C’est la vie
Darren spins the wheel as another car comes speeding towards him – they hit each other and spin off in opposite directions
FADE TO BLACK
EXT – CAR – NIGHT
DARREN
No, no, no, NO!! My Mom is gonna kill me!
JACK
Déjà vu
DARREN
Shut up. What the hell were you doing travelling that fast?
THALIA
We’re fine by the way! Thanks for asking.
DARREN
Why were you going to fast?
THALIA
Geez – something to do with crazy dead man throwing balls of fire at us about fifty feet away
Jack looks down the road
JACK
Thalia
THALIA
What?
JACK
There’s nothing there…
Ryan and Thalia stare back down the road. It’s empty.
