INT – CASEYS HOUSE – DAY
Casey is sat in her room – staring into space as her Mother knocks and the door and pops her head round. Casey doesn’t react
MOTHER
You have a visitor
CASEY
Who?
MOTHER
He didn’t say
CASEY
He?
MOTHER
I think he’s American
CASEY
Darren
Her Mother gives a half smile before moving aside to let Darren through the door
DARREN
Hey
CASEY
(awkward)
Hi
She pulls out from under the table and rolls past him to her dresser
DARREN
Listen…
CASEY
Sorry
DARREN
Me too.
CASEY
(laughs)
That’s the first time I’ve ever apologised not just to shut someone up
DARREN
Think it’s the first time you’ve laughed too.
CASEY
(frowns)
What are you doing here?
DARREN
Something happened last night – something bad
CASEY
Is anyone hurt?
DARREN
Not badly
CASEY
But people are hurt?
DARREN
Thalia cut her head a little…
CASEY
I don’t know her
DARREN
She’s a friend of Ryan’s…kind of
CASEY
Jamie’s Brother?
DARREN
Step-Brother.
CASEY
So, what happened?
Darren looks down to the ground
CASEY
It’s too do with Gladys isn’t it?
DARREN
I…I think so
MIX TO.
EXT – GRAVEYARD – DAY
Casey and Darren slowly approach a grave
DARREN
Are you ready for this?
CASEY
I’ll never be ready for this
(breath)
But I have to do it
They pause before continuing over to Glen’s grave.
CASEY
Makes it feel so real – I can’t believe it’s taken me six years to get here
DARREN
It won’t get any easier. I won’t lie to you
CASEY
Thanks. So, what’s the big theory?
DARREN
I couldn’t help but think about the other week – with Gladys and John…
CASEY
Are you sure it was my Dad?
DARREN
Ryan knows him Casey
CASEY
That’s what I was afraid of. But – why bring me here?
DARREN
That’s what I was saying – I got thinking and so, I came down to see if his grave had been disturbed in some raising ritual then I saw the grave next to his…
Casey looks over
CASEY
John
DARREN
Did your Mom choose his burial plot?
CASEY
No…his Mum did
DARREN
Looks like Gladys wanted some paternal bonding to occur beyond the grave.
CASEY
Looks like
DARREN
Thing is – she was dead before the vehicle cut her up
Casey screws up her face at the imagery
DARREN
(cautious)
Casey I think your Dad killed her
CUT TO.
INT – SHOP – NIGHT
Jamie and Ryan slip through the beads hanging from the door of a dusty and dark old shop – all in reds and purples, only cracks of sunlight sneak in through the blinds.
JAMIE
Remind me again why I’m here?
RYAN
We’re looking for Shy
JAMIE
Shy who?
RYAN
She’s a friend of a friend. She travels the spirit world – knows her stuff, she’ll be able to tell us what we need to know
Jamie pulls aside a curtain and covers her mouth in a gasp. Ryan follows over and stares, his jaws locked tight
RYAN
(through teeth)
Bastard
Shy is hanging from a rope by her neck
JAMIE
How do you know she didn’t do it herself?
RYAN
She did. They just played with her until she did.
JAMIE
We should… alert somebody
They pull away from the curtain. As they do a light gust of wind blows up the corner of another – a pink curtain in front of a shelf behind the counter
Ryan pulls it aside and finds a trilogy of books “The Spirit Realms”
RYAN
(smiles)
Thanks Shy
CUT TO.
INT – CASEYS ROOM – NIGHT
Casey is reading through a science book as her curtains blow. She ignores them
CASEY
I’m not turning around. I can’t look at you
(long pause)
Dad.
GLEN
How did you know I was here?
CASEY
How could I not?
GLEN
It doesn’t scare you?
CASEY
I don’t get scared
GLEN
Big and brave as ever
CASEY
Where’s Gladys?
GLEN
You mean your Grandmother?
CASEY
I mean your mother.
GLEN
She’s where she belongs… rotting in hell
Casey spins round in reaction – her room is empty.
CUT TO.
INT – DARRENS HOUSE – DAY
Darren and Ryan are at the table reading the books as Jamie sits with her head against the wall listening to head phones.
DARREN
See… I invited you to do stuff with me
RYAN
Should I just glare at you now best friend?
DARREN
Okay so as far as male bonding goes I pretty much suck
RYAN
I’ll get over it – have you found anything yet?
DARREN
Not much in the way of…hang on
RYAN
What is it?
DARREN
This passage… it says something about generations. The Founders and two below…
RYAN
Gladys, John, Glen and…
DARREN
Casey…
Darren keeps reading
DARREN
It says something about corners and… a central power. The dead shall rise on the nearest new moon to the ritual –
RYAN
The day that John came to the college…
DARREN
Gladys must’ve performed it before she died.
RYAN
What else?
DARREN
Hang on…it says that a third shall rise to take the fourth – the circle is formed and the power shall focus to the root.
RYAN
Gladys
DARREN
How so?
RYAN
The root – the start – she gave birth to Glen.
Darren turns the page
DARREN
I’ve seen this before…these pictures
CUT TO.
INT – MORGUE – NIGHT
John and Glen stand over the slab upon which Gladys is pieced together. They hold hands a mumble together as light surrounds them.
Slowly, Gladys reforms.
GLADYS
My boys…
JOHN
Back from the hell you belong in
GLEN
Hey! That’s my Mother
JOHN
You killed her
GLEN
So that we can be together, ruling forever.
JOHN
So, what are we waiting for… we need our fourth.
CUT TO.
EXT – FIELDSIDE – NIGHT
Darren is in the field where Glen appeared and Gladys was found

Jamie and Thalia pass glances as they light their candles
MIX TO.
INT – MAUSOLEUM – NIGHT
Ryan steps down into the Mausoleum, a small temple with four men – all shrinking in size, is in front of him with an empty candle holder.
He places the candle in and pulls a book out of his bag.
MIX TO.
Darren opens one of the books – the pages flick through and freeze on the centre page.
CUT TO.
EXT – STREET – NIGHT
Casey is travelling the street with a bag of shopping in her lap as her Father appears before her. She stares through him
GLEN
My little girl
Gladys appears beside him
GLADYS
Don’t worry Casey, I’m in a better place now
CASEY
I wasn’t worried
JOHN (O.S)
You should be
John appears from nowhere
JOHN
Time to get off this ride little girl – you’re about to be involved in a terrible accident
CASEY
I doubt it
John waves his hand at a parked car – it’s lights flick on and the ignition starts
JOHN
Doubt it all you like
The car screeches on the spot before jetting out of it’s space
END OF PART THREE
GLADYS
It will only hurt for a second!
MIX WITH
Gladys, Glen and John encourage the car towards Casey / Darren blows his candle out.
EXT – STREET – NIGHT
A roar of thunder rips through the sky above the spirits
GLEN
Someone is trying to intervene!
JOHN
Someone with great power…
The car is about to hit Casey as it suddenly halts. All three spirits vanish.
Casey catches her breathe for a moment before grabbing her phone.
CUT TO.
EXT – FIELD – NIGHT
Darren is stood alone as flashes of lighting race in a sheet through the clouds – the three spirits, in their dead form, appear in front of him
JOHN
I should’ve known you’d be involved
DARREN
You remembered me? I can die happily now
JOHN
Happy or not, you’re going to die
DARREN
Well yeah, I am a mortal. Get with the programme
Footprints form in the mud as they take solid form – Darren dashes to the centre of the field.
MIX TO.
Jamie and Thalia hold hands as wind blows past them
MIX TO.
Jack holds the side of a grave stone as wind blows through his hair
MIX TO.
Ryan holds his hand against the illustration as it lights up
MIX TO.
GLADYS
Wait…this isn’t it…this isn’t the power stopping us
DARREN
I bind you to this place
GLEN
What is he doing?
DARREN
I bind you from the haunt
JOHN
Stop him
GLADYS
I can’t move!
The skies open and light pours out onto them – Darren is thrown back as an explosion of light fills the area before sinking downwards and dissapearing.
Darren stairs up from the floor as rain pours around him, covering him in mud
He gets up and looks around, panting.
FADE TO.
INT – CAFÉ – DAY
Jack, Jamie and Darren are in the café alone.
JACK
I can’t believe her own family would plan to kill her
JAMIE
I can
DARREN
(ignoring)
Its what power can do to you
JACK
Doesn’t that scare you
DARREN
I think I can handle it
JAMIE
At least it’s over now
DARREN
Not for Casey
JAMIE
True
(upbeat)
But it is for us
CUT TO.
EXT – FIELD – DAY
The field is still wet – one of the puddles begins bubbling as blood seeps through and curdles with the water
END.
