INT – JAMIES KITCHEN – MORNING
Jamie comes down the stairs, brushing her hair repeatedly as her step-brother, Ryan, who’s recently returned from his travels, is sat at the table.
RYAN
Hey Loser.
JAMIE
Oh, I see the curse to make you planes engine blow, failed.
RYAN
Cute.
JAMIE
I know.
RYAN
Why are you repeatedly combing your hair when you’re just going to tie it up?
JAMIE
Duh, because!
RYAN
Because what?
JAMIE
Go away! Is because!
RYAN
Is why
JAMIE
Whatever, can’t you be somewhere that’s not here?
RYAN
I live here
JAMIE
Woo!
Ryan leaves the rest of his food and heads up to his room, passing his Mum on the way.
ROSE
What’s wrong with him?
JAMIE
You’re his Mother
ROSE
Jamie!
JAMIE
I was raised to be honest
ROSE
But you weren’t raised to be a spiteful brat
JAMIE
You did not just come into my house and call me names
ROSE
This is my house! You moved in with me!
JAMIE
Whatever, tell your loser son to stay out of my room or I’ll break his hands off
Jamie walks out of the door, slamming it as hard as she can.
She walks down the drive and looks up to Ryan who is staring at her out of his window.
JAMIE

INT – COLLEGE – DAY
Jamie, Jack and Darren are all sat around the quad at lunch, it’s overly sunny for an English September
JAMIE
I blame global warming
DARREN
You don’t know anything about global warming
JACK
Except you caused it with the amount of hair spray you use
JAMIE
Funny boy, get laid lately?
Jack shuffles and continues eating
JAMIE
I’m serious – pretty soon it’ll be all scarves in July and sunbathing at Christmas
DARREN
Taking extremities a little much there Jay
JAMIE
Whatever, I know what I’m talking about
Jack jumps to his feet and runs off across the quad
DARREN
What’s his deal?
Jack runs over to Casey who is wheeling across the quad, buried under a pile of books
JACK
Hey
CASEY
What?
JACK
Franklinstein put us together remember? Biology
CASEY
I assume you have a point and I just blinked as it went past
JACK
Ouch! You freeze your pea’s with that ice?
CASEY
Library, 4.30. Don’t be late.
JACK
Yes sir!
CASEY
Piss off.
Casey goes off, leaving Jack to walk back to the others
DARREN
You got frost bite from talking to her?
JACK
She’s not so bad – it’s a defensive thing. We had art together last year she’s kinda deep but kinda…freaky with it
JAMIE
I hate her
DARREN
You’ve never spoken to her, ever
JAMIE
Still don’t like her – she looks at me with ~my~ look!
DARREN
God forbid!
Jamie looks down at her watch
JAMIE
Eugh, gotta go – apparently freakish loser step brother can’t do the house straight after vacation so I’ll be tidying today
DARREN
He’s back?
JAMIE
Oh most definitely
CUT TO.
INT – RYANS ROOM – DAY
Ryan is laying on his bed, staring at the ceiling, he looks over at the cabinet and squints his eyes – the controller lifts from the table and moves into his hands.
CUT TO.
EXT – JAMIES HOUSE – DAY
Jack is kicking a can along the street – he shoots it into a trash can
JACK
He shoots! He scores!
Jack rolls over on the ground
JACK
The crowd goes wild!
JAMIE
Loser
JACK
Bitch
JAMIE
Down boy
DARREN
You both have a good case – Jamie you’re a bitch
JAMIE
I can’t argue with that
DARREN
Jack you’re a loser
JACK
I’m not a loser
DARREN
You’re playing soccer with a drink can
JAMIE
Soccer? Flashback home boy you’ve lived in England for years –he’s playing football.
DARREN
I’m true to my roots
JAMIE
Hmm
JACK
Speaking of roots – I have no idea why I walked all the way over here because I have to head all the way back
DARREN
How is that anything to do with roots?
JACK
It’s not but you weren’t speaking about college and I didn’t want to lie
DARREN
That makes no sense
JACK
I can’t argue with that. Later.
Jack begins sprinting off down the road
DARREN
Special kid
JAMIE
Isn’t he just
Jamie sits herself up on the wall
DARREN
You’re stalling
JAMIE
That I am – are you sure you don’t want to come in and not to coursework?
DARREN
Pretty sure – If I leave Dawn alone for too long she gets bored and starts exploring my room
JAMIE
Not even if a do puppy eyes?
DARREN
You know they don’t work with me
JAMIE
They work with everyone and you know it
DARREN
Sorry Jay, no can do.
JAMIE
Argh! Fine!
(beat)
I’ll call you later
DARREN
Ciao Bella
Darren walks off, Jamie’s eyes following him down the road before she gets off the wall and stomps into the house
INT – JAMIES KITCHEN – DAY
Jamie places her bag down on the table and goes to the fridge
JAMIE
Vodka…vodka and……Orange.
Jamie pours the drink and cringes at it’s strength before nodding in satisfaction
JAMIE
Anyone home?
She walks through to the living room and sits down – she’s about to take of her shoes when she stops and grins as the puts her very spikey heels on the table.
ROSE
Off!
JAMIE
Crap – I asked if anyone was home
ROSE
I’m leaving
JAMIE
For good?
ROSE
For work
JAMIE
I have now lost all faith in the lord
ROSE
Don’t mess the house up and don’t bug your brother
JAMIE
He’s not my brother
ROSE
Are you drinking my vodka?
JAMIE
You’re married to my Dad which means it’s half his
ROSE
But doesn’t mean it’s yours
JAMIE
Whats his is mine, which means what’s yours, is technically one third mine
ROSE
Goodbye
Rose rolls her eyes and shakes her head before leaving. Jamie takes a moment before heading to the stairs to her room – she wonders up and crosses Ryan’s room, the door is ajar and being the type of girl that she is, she decides to take a quick look in.
JAMIE
Hey freak your Mum…
Jamie’s jaw drops upon seeing Ryan facing the window – the iron is pressing his shirt behind him
Ryan turns round to finish the job himself, he sees Jamie and the Iron falls down – she runs out, shocked.
RYAN
Jamie!
EXT – JAMIES HOUSE – DAY
Jamie runs down the drive looking lost, she trips and loses a shoe. Instead of putting it back on she just grabs it and keeps on running
END OF PART ONE
INT – SCHOOL – DAY
Jack dots into the library where Casey is sat alone
JACK
Sorry I’m late – there was a…um…thing with…
CASEY
You walked Jamie home
JACK
Right
CASEY
Give it up
JACK
Give what up?
CASEY
The delusion that Jamie Dockerson will ever be into you
JACK
I…I’m not into her
CASEY
Oh, it must be my mistake that you laugh at her non funny jokes and walk her home even though she lives in central Amberfield and you live in West Darlington
JACK
She’s my friend – I haven’t seen her in a while and we’re catching up
CASEY
No. You’re catching up with Darren – the two of you chat, Jamie she notices him, you – you dribble on her
JACK
I do not dribble and who are you to make judgements on me
CASEY
Like you did with me?
JACK
You don’t even know me
CASEY
Okay Mr. Pot stop calling me black, this kettle just wants to do the bloody assignment and never have to work with you again
JACK
Whatever
CASEY
Did you bring the notes?
JACK
Notes?
CASEY
You didn’t bring the notes
JACK
Which notes do you mean? I could’ve bought them
CASEY
Did you bring any form of note?
JACK
Only the one from my dad saying that noodles ate my notes
CASEY
Noodles?
JACK
My dog.
CASEY
Right
CUT TO.
EXT – ALLEY – NIGHT
Jamie comes running round the corner, falling to a halt as a set of blue sparkles forms in front of her forming the shape of Ryan.
RYAN
Jamie listen to me
JAMIE
Stay away from me you freak
RYAN
Calm down – just listen for one minutes
JAMIE
What are you?
RYAN
Okay that will take more than just a minute
JAMIE
Ryan…
Jamie looks down innocently before stepping closer. She then smacks him in the face and runs off
RYAN
JAMIE!!
CUT TO.
INT – SCHOOL – EVENING
Casey and Jack are still both sat in silence – atmosphere is tight as Jack continuously taps his pencil on the edge of the table receiving cold glares every five seconds
CASEY
If you tap, I snap. Stop it.
JACK
I’m bored
CASEY
Well maybe if you actually done more than get your pen out of your bag, you’d feel more stimulated
JACK
Maybe if my company wasn’t so…
CASEY
Let’s not do this. I’m trying to work and the victory of outwitting you will only put me off
JACK
Can I ask you a personal question?
CASEY
No
JACK
How did you end up in a wheel chair…or were you born into it
CASEY
Yeah, they had it waiting at the end of the bed and drew a target on it for my Mum to aim at
JACK
Sorry
CASEY
It was a dem…a dog, a big one – car accident when I was younger I got out but the dog went wild and severed a nerve in my spine
JACK
God
CASEY
Doesn’t exist.
Everything goes quiet until Jacks phone begins to ring
JACK
Talk to me
(pause)
Okay…book on what?
(beat)
Right over
Jack hangs up the phone and gives Casey a guilty look
JACK
So…what…
CASEY
Meet me tomorrow at 7.30, it’s open late night
JACK
What?
CASEY
Go play with your friends you’re not working anyway!
JACK
Thank you!
Casey blushes when Jack excitedly hugs her
CASEY
Don’t do that again
JACK
Sorry
Jack grabs his bag and runs off.
Casey continues reading as she hears her name being whispered
CASEY
Very funny Jack
Casey continues to search around the bookshelves, her wheel gets stuck on a corner, as she’s looking down a shadow comes over her causing her to jump in shock
CASEY
You’re a dick!
JACK
Err…thanks.
CASEY
I thought you had to leave?
JACK
I did. I do. Just had to get this book on…demonology?
CASEY
Demonology
JACK
Must be a history thing
CASEY
Right
JACK
Bye
Casey watches as Jack leaves the library, a chill goes through her as she looks at the janitor down the hall.
Casey does one last glance around the library before returning to her desk at which, from the shadows, the janitor is now watching
CUT TO.
INT – DARRENS ROOM – NIGHT
DAWN
Calm down!
JAMIE
No!
DAWN
Can I still not beat her with a stick?
DARREN
No!
DAWN
Fine, so floating – big deal, doesn’t mean he’s gonna eat your head when you’re sleeping!
(beat)
Doesn’t mean he’s not though
JAMIE
Darren!
DARREN
Dawn, talk less it’s helpful
(beat)
Okay – first we need to find out what kind of demon he is and…
DAWN
A Witch. He could be a witch
JAMIE
Witch?
DAWN
Don’t seem so shocked! You did kill a vampire two weeks ago!
JAMIE
I’m repressing
DARREN
Guys will you stop
JACK (O.S)
Chicken
JAMIE
I am not chicken
JACK
(to Darren)
You’re Mum let me in
(to Jamie)
Pizza. I got chicken pizza and…
(to Dawn)
Your book
DAWN
So…I guess that we’ll be checking him out?
JAMIE
Not tonight, wait until tomorrow – I…I can’t go back there tonight
(to Darren)
Can I stay here?
Jack shuffles uncomfortably
DARREN
Sure, tomorrow we’ll go see him – sort this out
JAMIE
Thanks
Jamie smiles at Darren as Jack looks on with Envy
