Guys here is the deal. I want you to be in a single company under your own command if possible, especially since the CHAPs have voted to go blue and I am on staff. Mike Hendricks, CS commander, wants to bring the Savannah Volunteer Guard alive as an impression, but we only need 18-20 of you. The unit was an artillery unit aka the 18th Georgia Battalion, with a militia pedigree that goes back to the 18th century. They fought as infantry from the time they arrived in Virginia during May 64. At Sailor's Creek they went down fighting, all 85 being killed, wounded or captured.

The key is we would like you to look as they did, with BG kersey uniforms with red collar trim, and the nearest ready made thing we have there is Tait or RD 3 jackets with red collar trim. We don't know the exact pattern, so we are going with Taits as there were many issued and worn in the last months of the war, including artillery trimmed jackets worn by infantry. I have asked Patrick and Danny to canvas everyone to see if that is doable, and I have asked Chris Daley to give me a price on 10 or more of his Taits with red trim.

Your company will be part of the 24th Georgia Infantry for organizational purposes, though the SVG was not in DuBose Brigade with the 24th. Other activities you may get to do is build a bridge and serve with the one or two guns we will have on the CS side. We are looking at duplicating the SVG's flag as well.

If procuring the uniform is too hard/expensive for everyone, you will likely still be with the 24th Georgia. John Pagano, the commander of that battalion, is one dedicated and outstanding soldier and historian.

So let me know who has a Tait and whether you can put red trim on it. Those who do not have one, let me know who might be interested in making one or having Chris Daley make one for you.

cheers,
Doug
