Subject: Federals at Mansfield

Folks:

At the muster for the 9th Texas Infantry last week in central Texas the issue of Mansfield came up. The 9th had already commited to a max battalion effort as Federals (165th NY Zouave) and would have fielded about 100 men. We were told that outside of the preservation march that very little information about the reenactment has been forthcoming. The word out is that for Confederate forces two battalions are expected in addition to the 15th Texas. However, no major Federal units have commited to the event.

The 9th changed its plans and decided to make Beaumont Ranch in mid-March, near DFW, the battalian max effort. It's hoped that Beaumont will attract around a thousand reenactors, a major event for Texas. Mansfield will be optional. A few from the 9th will fall in with the 15th Texas, and probably a company or so will show up to do Zouave.

So it looks like short of a last minute galvanization by a battalion or so, that there won't be many Yanks, but then, few of us are going for the spectator battles.
