Subject: PRAYERS NEEDED

I'm not sure how closely everyone follows what's going on in other people's lives on this web site, but in case you've seen "Cliff" on here, his father is battling cancer as well.

Cliff left me an email this morning about his Dad. Please add Cliff, his Dad, and the rest of his family to your prayer list.

This is a copy of what he said in the email:

I hate to be impersonal with a group message like this, but I don't have time this morning to write to everyone individually. My dad went into the hospital on Wednesday; the doctors said they thought it was some sort of infection, though they were unable to find the cause or location. My mom called last night to say that he was feeling better, and she hoped he'd come home today. However, he took a turn for the worse during the night, and the doctors suggested calling family members this morning. I'm leaving for NY shortly. I hope I can return this evening, or tomorrow, with good news, but that may not be the case. I may be unavailable this weekend. I'm not sure when I'll be back, but I'll let you know the outcome at that time.

Cliff

Got an update from my friend Cliff about his Dad.

It reads as follows:

I'm at my parents' house, on their computer. I'll be going back to the hospital in a while. My brothers are great--they decided that, since our 4th of July cookout had to be canceled, they'd make me a birthday dinner here tonight. They made a roast, and brought me some Grolsch beer.

My dad has a very bad case of pneumonia, and we now know, from the results of an enzyme test, that he's had a heart attack, too. He's on a respirator, and is getting various medicines via I.V. The plan is to wait a day or two to see if he shows any improvement; if not, my mom will have to decide when to take him off the respirator. There is the possibility that he'll have another heart attack, from which he would probably not recover. At the moment, he seems stable. So we're just waiting.

I appreciate everyone's support. Hopefully I'll be home in a day or two--I'll have to be, or Patrick will run out of food and money! This is the first time he's stayed home alone.

Cliff

Thanks for posting that! I'm home now. Maybe the prayers helped, because it looks like my dad is going to pull through. Yesterday, his chest x-ray suggested that the antibiotics were starting to have an effect on the pneumonia. His blood oxygen level was back up to normal, even though the oxygen content of the respirator air had been decreased from 100% to 50% and they to 40%. He had a couple episodes last night during which his heart rate climbed very high, but the blood pressure remained stable. He had another x-ray this morning, and it showed improvement over yesterday's. The medical staff at the hospital is very pleased with his progress. I talked to my mother this evening, and she said that they're reducing the sedative, trying to see if they can make him responsive to voices. He'll probably remain in the respirator for a few more days, and he'll probably be in the CCU at least until next weekend. But we're all feeling better now that it appears he'll be able to overcome the pneumonia. The cardiologist is hoping to check on the condition of his heart as early as Tuesday (he didn't want to do that until the pneumonia looked better, as that was the immediate threat). Of course, after all that, the cancer will still require treatment. But for someone who was given Last Rites on Friday morning (he doesn't go to church, but my mother is a good Catholic!), he's come a long way.

Hi Stacy, I think that after today you only have one more treatment. I hope that is correct. I have been thinking of you, and I have been missing your posts. However, I am sure that you have not been thinking of the computer. I hope too, that you have had some relief from all of the discomforts from the steroids and radiation.

I just wanted you to know that we have been thinking of you. Love and prayers, Bonnie & Jack
