Subject: MORE PRAYERS NEEDED

Well here's the update from my CT scan....

My instincts and ominous feelings were right.

I went to see the doctor today for chemo and took him the films from my CT scan. Dr. Hahn reviewed them and determined that the Gemcitabine is no longer working. The tumor in my lung has been growing again. The CT scan from September had shown 2 millimeters of growth since July. We don't have the official results from the radiologist so we don't know the exact total of growth yet. I should know that sometime next week.

Fortunately, the lymph nodes appear to still be in remission.

Since there is growth of the tumor, I have to change chemo drugs. Needless to say I didn't receive chemo today. I will begin a new regiment and a new drug tomorrow (Friday). The new drug is a pill and it is called XELODA aka 5F.

My new regiment is:

Six (6) - 500 milligram pills per day (this is 3000 milligrams per day).

Take 3 pills in the morning then 3 pills in the evening.

I will take 3000 milligrams of Xeloda for 14 days straight then I will have a 7 day break. This is a 21 day cycle.

Dr. Hahn wants to see me in 10 days to see how I am doing on the drug since some people have allergic reactions to it. My appointment is on Monday, December 13th.

If all is going well, then I will see him again on Thursday, December 23rd for a new prescription.

After this month I will only see him once per month for an examination and to receive the new prescription for Xeloda for the pharmacy.

If I am tolerating the drug well, Dr. Hahn said today that he wants me to go through two cycles then he will check my progress again. I am assuming that means another CT scan in two months.

The CT scan did not show anything in the gall bladder area. When I initially was diagnosed with cancer this time around, I was having pains in the gall bladder area and in my back. Since nothing is showing up in the sonogram or CT scan and the bloodwork on my liver all look fine, Dr. Hahn believes the discomfort is from the cancer. I imagine it's swelling on the rib cage. He said something about the rib cage today but I missed what he said for certain.

Thank you so much for all your prayers!! Please continue to keep me in your prayers, I certainly could use them.

Well, that's not the best news I've heard all day. But I know you'll keep going. You know, after my dad was diagnosed with lung cancer, and while he was in chemo, I used to pass along to my parents some of the things you told me, some of your experiences. My mom was very impressed with you, even though she's never met you! "That Stacy seems like quite a gal." (My mom is 73 years old, so "gal" doesn't sound funny when she says it!) And if you think about it, you did get SOME good news: at least the Xeloda is a pill, not a suppository........

hey Stacy
I'll keep praying and you keep smiling!
Last night I saw something I did not think would occur. One of my kats (who is large and has a bad disposition, but otherwise is a pleasent...well, for a kat he is pleasent) struck a possum not once but three times and then chased him. This same kat has a business card which states: Thomas A. Kat, bird assasine.

Stacey,

Even though I already knew , I still wanted to read your post. I am still digesting it all. I also wanted to tell you again how great it was to see you the other night and how much I really enjoyed the time to sit and chat with you. Been a while since we had the chance to do that without 35 interruptions here at work. Please never forget I will be available when ever you may need me. I am just a phone call away... work or home! Betty also was saddened by the recent test results, and sends all her love, prayers, and best wishes.

Jack

Stacy,

Sorry to hear about your scan. I can't say I thought it would be good news after I received the e-mail from you earlier this week. You seem to have a good grip on what your body is telling you.

We will continue to pray every day.
