As the sounds of an approaching equine reached her thorns, Elven briefly entertained a flare of hope. Had he come after her? That thought was immediately ignited in the intense heat of her self-loathing, the mare angry as all hell for even thinking of him. Then, Hex came into sight, his familiar figure soothing the frazzled nerves of the grey valkyrie. He can't see me like this! she thought, nearly in a panic at the idea of Hex witnessing her tortured soul. However, Fate spared her from that undesirable outcome as Hex merely gave her some of the love she so desperately needed. Like a sponge, she soaked up the warmth of his embrace and the sweet sensation elicited by his concern. Family would be there for her--another lesson she'd failed to remember during this tumultuous time in her life. Warmed by the thought, Elven was convinced that she could bury herself in this security blanket and forget that the incident ever happened. Then that security blanket was ripped away with the questioning pronunciation of her name. The weak walls crumbled away, the mortar too fresh to stand against the deluge of tears that suddenly welled in her obsidian eyes.

.:I'm such a fool:. she whispered, her eyelids fiercely clenched shut in hopes of hindering the scalding flood of tears. Her pain and humiliation would not be denied and soon rivulets of briny liquid trickled down her cheeks, staining the pelt into a dark pewter. Elven had always been a pillar of stability, the one who never showed emotion and never let on that anything touched her. In another blow to her pride, here she was bawling her eyes out to her baby brother. The world had turned upside down, leaving her dizzy and disoriented in the process. Her only comfort lay in the fact that Hex couldn't see the pain in her eyes, a clear reflection of her broken heart. After several moments, she began to quiet, the sobs wracking her body diminishing in intensity. Soon she merely sniffled, her muzzle still pressed to her brother's mane.

.:I'll be alright:. she assured him a small voice, but she didn't pull away. For now, she'd revel in this small comfort in a world where none else existed.
