I can definately see the benefits in having two referees on the field - but I believe the negative effects heavily outweigh them.

At the risk of repeating what has already been said, I read someones post saying "they're all at the highest level and should be refereeing to the same standard" (or something to that effect).

That comment is definately true but the big thing here is PERCEPTION which leads to CONSISTANCY - Every single person takes things in differently and where one person might have a great game blowing 5 or 6 penalties, a person who blows 12 or 13 penalties can also have a great game.

Take cricket for example, how often do you see an umpire give someone out for an LBW appeal, then the exact same delivery happens at the other end, and that umpire says not out?

Two referees on the field, while good in theory, will come back to haunt the people who implement it eventually, much the same as the video referee has in recent times.
