The media is driving it, so the experiment will happen. How the outcomes will be evaluated I am not sure. Will it mean twice as many referees graded etc? I suspect that it would be more likely that referees would double up on games over the weekend.

I have officiated in sports that use 2 on-field officials and played some as well. In some instances it has worked well (hockey is very tough to umpire by yourself) and in other occasions it has not worked so well (touch, where one referee was able to dominate another and there were inconsistencies).

Rugby League is a peculiar game in that it has a number of subjective decisions to be made, and relies a lot on the referee establishing a pace and rhythm for the game. These days, it also relies a lot on playing the advantage to get a smooth game as much as possible. With 2 referees, I would imagine a higher penalty count, as there is disagreement on "advantage". With teamwork, I could imagine getting a consistent pace and feel of the game, however that would be the main issue I feel.

However, for the 98% of us who are not involved in the lofty heights..there are enough difficulties in getting 1 referee per game, so ther chances of getting 2 referees is pretty minimal. Life will continue as usual.
