Hmmm... it seems to be a touchy subject and I suppose it has been one for a while now...

Greg, you seem to have a lack of understanding of how Touch referees work. I imagine that you are basing your information on a local park level game, and not on a game played at the elite level, where there are rarely (and I do mean rarely) inconsistencies.

I have refereed League for 15 years and Touch now for well over 10 years and I have seen both games change dramatically, and with it, us referees have changed as well. (although some would beg to differ).

I believe that we should at least trial the same system used in Touch as I think it may have some merit. I in no way want League to become Touch footy, else I would only referee Touch, but I think that if we are serious about improving our standard of referees and refereeing, we need to “look outside the box” and experiment with things that work in other sports, especially ones so closely linked.

In my opinion as a referee of 2 codes of football, I don’t believe that having 2 center referees is the answer as that WILL lead to inconsistencies.

There must be a better way; I just think we need to perhaps focus on the role of Touch Judge instead of adding extra center referees.

That's my opinion and I know there will be people that will disagree with it. All I can say is, don't just disagree, give us your ideas.
