>It is Grand Final Day 2007 Souths V Manly.

Souths are leading 22-20 and there are 2 minutes to play. They have been defending on their own line for the past 6 minutes and are looking dead on their feet. Stewart makes a break from a scrum and gets taken down 1 metre out. 1st tackle. Orford goes to dummy half and scoots out looking for a hole.

The pace is frantic and men are running everywhere. Orford runs behind Lyon and stops Kidwell from making a tackle but he stops, realising his mistake and gaining no advantage. He is one metre out and if Vagana puts a hand on Orford it will be tackle 2 .

If the Souths players refuse to tackle Orford what can happen?

1) He falls over the line and has a penalty awarded against him due to a shepherd.
2) He stands there waiting for a Souths player to tackle him, he cannot take a single step forward because that will be an advantage and he will be penalised.
** he cannot take a voluntary tackle as this will be a penalty.

Finally, a young substitute Souths player has no idea what is happening as he is playing his 10th game and goes and tackles Orford, because that is what 15 years of coaching has taught him to do.

Orford is tackled, it is play on. Menzies scores the premiership winning try the next play (identical as to what happened Souths V Newcastle) and the kid is blamed because he tackled an opposing player.

Oh dear, if only the kid had have stood there and watched, Souths would have got the penalty and would have won their first flag in 6500 years.

Great law.........
