Subject: If you can officiate footy then you should try cricket as well

Sorry guys .... I know this is a bit off topic but its sort of related since we all have a common interest which is officiating sport.

In the winter months you all referee our footy games but what do you do in the summer ? Any chance you'd like to take up officiating Australia's national summer sport ?

If so then read on.........

Cricket Umpires Urgently Needed for Next Season

Cricket umpiring is often seen as a source of pressure and controversy, but for many, umpiring can be a rewarding experience especially for those men, and women, who love the game and want to continue their involvement when their playing days are over. Alternatively those who love the game but have never actually played can take up the challenge of being an official in Australia’s national Summer sport.

Inter district cricket in Sydney last summer experienced a chronic shortage of Umpires and the Sydney Shires Cricket Umpires Association is now actively seeking the services of extra people to adjudicate in matches within the Sydney metropolitan area for the upcoming 2007 summer

The Shires competition fields seventy teams from all parts of Sydney however there are insufficient umpires available to cover all of its matches – more umpires are urgently needed, what about you ?

All matches are of an excellent standard and only played on turf wickets. If extensive travel is a problem, the Umpires Association will gladly accommodate requests to officiate at grounds only in your specific local areas.

Umpires are paid a daily fee of $100 for an afternoon of cricket. You will ALWAYS be paired with another umpire with each umpiring at one end (ie, you will NOT be thrown to the wolves like some local cricket associations that have one umpire standing on his own at both ends and a player standing at square leg).

Matches are primarily on Saturdays however a second auxillary competition is also conducted on limited Sundays during the summer. Not able to umpire every weekend ? Well that’s not a problem either as part time umpires are very welcome to participate, even if it’s just a few games a season just to keep your eye in.

Ideally, you will have passed an accredited Umpires examination at some time in the past however for those willing do start from scratch a training course and examination will be put on at Cricket NSW head office in Moore Park (next door to Aussie Stadium) during the month of July for interested persons.

For more information please initially send an expression of interest email to shireumpires@iprimus.com.au

Thanks
