Friday had rolled around and no one had dared ask Sara to the dance... most people already had dates of course, and those that didn't either feared being rejected or feared James' wrath. So after most people were already there Sara appeared in the school gym, alone. She paused by the curtain of silver that covered the doors in a full hearted attempt to spruce the place up. Her blonde hair was loose and straight, framing her pretty face and picking her out from the crowds of girls who had elaborate up-do's. Her simple but beautiful long black strapless dress hugged her slender frame like a glove- and drew a fair amount of stares from the people who noticed her when she entered. She drew a soft breath and lifted her chin up a couple of millimetres, heading for the group of girls she called her friends who seemed to have abandoned their dates and huddled in their group to gossip. She stood amongst a sea of pink white and blue and ribbons and curls, there there was no denying she looked beautiful and perfectly at ease- even if she didn't feel it.
The week had passed without any more huge dramas. She was still the talk of school but James seemed to have comforted himself with one of the cheerleaders who he was now parading around like a prize cow- perhaps in the vain attempt to upset Sara, which it didn't. Mr Ackart had been her savior this week- though he may not know it. All week he'd kept the girls in class form harrasing her and whenever James seemed to come near her her English Lit teacher seemed to be just coming around the corner or down the hall evry time, so her week had passed by without too much attention, she was pleased to say. He father had announced as he dropped her off here ten minutes earlier that he was out of town for the next two weeks and that she could reach him on his cell if she needed anything. Not that she would. And not that he'd expect her to. She'd have to beg a ride home off someone though. She sighed inwardly as she let her gaze drift, her hazel eyes landing on Mr Ackart almost immediately and a small, insignificant smile touched her lips in greeting to him.
