The street was empty and it was beginning to rain. Night was falling and mothers called their children in, protecting them from the Indigos. Parents would use them as a replacement boogie-man now, and even the older children feared the strange and powerful race. The danger was less now - it was never gone - so Will allowed the warmth to seep out from within. Instantly he was warm again, the fat raindrops sizzled on his palms where most of the power resided. He rubbed the two calloused palms together, creating the friction needed to permit the fire to gather. As if a light had been lit, a fist-sized ball of blue-black flame erupted, but for once stayed within it’s predetermined spherical shape.

He reached the church and was surprised to see the girl standing outside in the rain. Tossing the flame to his other hand, William shook his head. “The door’s open, you know.” The tired old doors creaked their complaints but slid open to admit the two. “Melted the lock a while ago, no one’s bothered to fix it yet.” The bluish flame licked his fingers with white-hot flames, but the boy didn’t flinch. Suddenly it exploded into many smaller particles which flew to the unlit candles in the room. He liked to be bathed in his own light when he could.

“I’ve asked you here to offer the chance to join our group.” He hesitated, “Okay, so I‘m requesting that you consider it. We’ve lost too many to the Neutrals,” His voice dripped with scorn. “and the Lightworkers, the foolish cowards. If this keeps up there will be no Indigos left.” The smokeless light flickered brighter for a moment but then subsided. He didn’t want to burn the church down... not again.
